The end in winter

I have visions of you sitting somewhere, cold and enshrouded in snow

I sense you clinging to life, trying not to let go

You are waiting for me I know

Your patience will not be in vain, I grab my coat and take my leave

So that I may hold you again and set you free

I follow the calls of your voice singing your old serenade

It leads me to the frozen wasteland that seeks to be your final resting place

In this place where angels dare not dwell

I shall press on and resist winter’s spell

The beastly blizzard does it’s best to keep me at bay

Toppling trees and hurling boulders across my way

Webs of frost form around my neck

I brush them away only for them to return in full effect

Frostbite creeps through my digits and starts to spread

Through my hands and feet and crawling slowly to my head

I don’t know if I can keep marching forward with my arms and legs gone

Snowflakes streak across my eyes and now my vision cannot be relied upon

Constellations of ice form around my face dark blue face

I fear I may lose myself in this desperate place

It’s as if the night sky has become my blindfold

But I believe with your charms this ailment may be consoled

The loss of sight matters not anyway

For your call is my lantern

And it would never lead me astray

A guiding light that can never abandon

Though your voice starts to fade

I can feel you near

The end of the serenade

But I know you are here

I force my eyes to open and see

You frozen in place but reaching out for me

Ensnared in crystals flowers that bloom with each step I take

I drag through the last few steps so that I can reach you before it’s too late

I take your hand and a hint of a smile grows ever so slightly on your face

My love I’m sorry I kept you waiting so long

I cannot save you but I will gladly share your fate

For no matter the circumstance, our embrace is where we belong

I can feel your breathing start to slow

And the last of my own strength is starting to go

It’s clear this is the end and so I lean in

For if it is our destiny to be frozen in time

It should be at the moment when your lips meet mine

Pillars of ice topple in the intense blizzard and seismic quakes shred the icy ground. The tundra collapses in on itself and begins falling into the sea, as everything falls apart a thick white mist bursts ups and enshrouds the scene. Underneath it, invisible and unseeable to every denizen of heaven and earth are two souls forever entwined with one another in a beautiful dance, spinning in a shard of ice and sinking deeper into cold water.
