i bought your old Mercedes last week

the one you had got the month we had met

how the tables have turned.

and 90 days later you left Tennessee

to spend the break running ‘round with me.

don’t you know Benz has high maintenance costs?

thought you would be rich forever, huh.

i paid in full but it ain’t brand new

extra to sit where you sat

two hours past midnight

this car, she’s

the closest thing to your home

but now she's mine

it's like i'm buying your time, bottled, capped, and wrapped in plastic

money can buy anything, huh.

and

sitting there i felt as if i could smell all the nights you had spent driving this bad boy but it was just me missing you.

a motivational speaker said he felt something test driving the vehicle he wanted at 20 and sitting in the German hand-stitched leather seats

and i feel it too.

and now and now you’re living in the same house

but now you got a fence for it

a retirement home for all the old men.

i hate you for being so careless so carefree

the mansion is quiet like that recording studio

the kid (baby white Mercedes-Benz sedan) misses you

baby i’m driving a vintage Benz

and i had washed out all the evidence

one last time before i give it away...

i didn’t want to deal with all the maintenance costs.

Hey! Thanks so much for reading all the way through. I'm super proud of this poem, it leaves me in my head every time a read it! I even tried to write a song with it.
