Small Town Whispers

In the shadows' embrace

I sought answers from her

My voice piercing the veil of secrecy

that cloaked her whereabouts for days

that felt like weeks.

The eerie silence that followed

hung like a menacing spectre in the dimly lit room.

Her response,

a mere flicker of emotion,

revealed nothing,

save for a chilling mystery to unfurl in the frigid air.

I grappled with confusion,

the cold tendrils of uncertainty wrapping around me,

physically and emotionally.

-

Persisting in pursuit of truth,

I confronted her again,

on where she had roamed,

sensing her evasion like a phantom in darkness.

-

With each elusive word

her subtle splutter

added to the emotional chasm

widening between us.

The dance of deceit

leaving me stranded in the shade of our fractured connection.

-

The tone shifted sombre,

echoing enduring hardship and pain

etched into the lines of my anguished brow.

-

Sinister turns

as I remove her veil of lies

concealing my lover's escapades.

-

The truth,

a bitter companion,

whispered in my ear

recalled through mind’s eye

of the tragic fate

that befell the one she had clandestinely embraced.

-

A horrific accident,

casting a pall of brutality over his existence,

entwining his destiny with hers.

-

Finality bore a shroud of mystery,

that man's whereabouts

and well-being obscured,

a tragic enigma lingering in the silent aftermath.
