Setting Sail

Walls are down

By Barb DukemanPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

The shell is broken (walls are down) -

Cuts uncalloused fingers young with age -

The calmest water turns around.

Scavengers swoop and peck the ground;

Such birds as these know no such cage -

The shell is broken (walls are down).

The boats are out and make no sound -

Orange sails with streaks of beige.

The calmest water turns around.

An awkward crab nowhere is found -

Far from home he calls his page.

The shell is broken (walls are down).

As the clouds grow darkly round,

Seagulls fly toward the sage.

The calmest water turns around.

Alone on the ocean, while waves pound,

I'm already sailing against his rage.

The shell is broken (walls are down).

The calmest water turns around.
