Pretending

Playing Life's Games

Pretending

If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times,

That those you love the most are those most unkind.

It’s just another saying, a quote upon the wind,

One that reflects hidden meanings, perhaps it’s a sin.

Year upon year the silent messages have passed,

From those who have done nothing, one’s hopes dashed.

And yet in the darkness of the empty tomb-like souls,

There remains no mercy, just deep dark holes.

So smile at those you mock behind closed doors,

And shout those comments until you’re no more.

For to pretend to be something that you’re not,

Is worst than revealing the hopeless soul you’ve got.

Many people fit this description who walk around about,

Pretending to love and sacrifice for others there’s no doubt.

Yet, as the minutes and hours of life tick away,

There will come a time of reckoning on that final day.

So continue to smile, to gesture in comedic form,

Upon today’s stage while lashing out like a storm.

But it is better to live a life even if it be alone,

Rather than surrendering one’s worth never to be atoned.

In my opinion, the meaning of this poem, when one loves someone wrongly when there is one incident that makes you realize. And then, What looks almost perfect can sometimes be the opposite.
