Plucky little pie bird
You brave the scorch of the oven
And send away, forthwith, the angry steam from within your crust
You jump right in to the bubbly compote filling
You bake amongst the blueberries
Poach with the peaches
Simmer in spiced apples
And toast with tart cherries
You have no fear!
You’re more of a snowbird, really
You like the heat
And when the timer chimes and you must come out to cool
You can rest in the knowledge that these pies would not be what they are
Without you
