old shoes

poem

By Edwin RosengrenPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

there is a pair of old brown shoes

sitting ever by the door

no one wears them anymore .

an old brown coat

hangs collecting dust

on a coat hook brown with rust

no one wears it anymore .

the old fedora is there as well

it's brim somewhat tattered

put there above , because that mattered

no one wears it anymore .

In days gone past they would leave together on the old mans frame ,

The places they've been .

no one wears them anymore , more the pity , such a shame .

the sights once seen .

but no one wears them anymore

ever present by the door

ready for a next adventure rain or shine .

they were his armor in their time .

and there they wait for his return

which is never ought to be

he has left this world

his soul set free .

The things we wear and use and own

I think they miss us once we've gone .

Here , I plan to change that .
