~

I wanna run away with you.

Top down, hair blowing across your face,

that smile in your eyes

sending me over the edge,

making my stomach do somersaults.

Your bare feet press up against

the warmth of the dash while

Van Morrison's velvety voice

slides over your freckled skin

as we let 'our soul and spirit fly'.

Your laugh makes my heart stall,

so much joy covering up chronic pain,

makeup smeared over bruised flesh,

a bottle of Skyy clutched to your breast,

yet you keep singing.

I wanna save you.

But you don't wanna be saved.

So we'll drive to the edge of reason

and I'll fall with you.

Proufoundly written! I know the feeling of wanting to be there for someone else, to help all you can; but not always are they ready for it, not always do they know how to respond to someone caring when pain is blinding.

hi~h - May I take a moment for a favorite reach back: I have a 'British'-drop-top roadster. With Rita Louise, we would 'Drive' up/down the coast as she lifted her arm to make the 'Queens'-Special-Wave with gawking passersby: Such a character always getting into character. Thanks for the lovely memory. You know I'm not an atta-boy guy. But, please take a moment to view 'Such a Deal'..you may get a Giggle. j.in.l.a.

This was short but yet captured a scene, characters, and conflict so vividly! Well done, Heather!

This is cute and very relatable in spirit. Sometimes the things just come from us. As pretentious and artsywanksy as that sounds...it just comes out needs to be out! All that funky jazz...look at me, sounding all poet-like. ffs. damn. loved this Hublernotthetelescope.

Okay let's see if I got it correctly. The poem is from the POV of a guy who's in love with a woman who's committed to someone who's abusing her physically? I'm so sorry if I'm wrong 😅 I loved your poem, my sweet looney partner!
