Memories That Still Sting

God, you’re such a brat.

Who is that?

Your mother, of course.

So, not a reliable source.

She’s just mad at me, again.

Who’s this, then?

I am your father.

What’s wrong, mother?

Stop acting like a baby!

Let’s give her some space, maybe.

Without you, I’d be free.

Mom, how can you say that to me?

Just come with me, dear.

Now, who’s here?

It’s me, your grandmother.

They’re yelling at each other.

Your parents have some things to work out.

But do they need to shout?

Don’t worry about them, that’s my job.

It makes my head throb.

Mine too, but they shouldn’t involve you.

It’s what they always do.

It’s still not right.

Why must they always fight?

I never wanted to be your mother!

Let’s go find your brother

I know where he likes to hide.

Then you will be the guide.

Here he is.

Come with me and your sis.

Where will we go?

I think you know.

What would we do without you?

Do you know how much I love you two?

As we do you.

Thank you!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Now, it’s time to get out of your head.

But in real life, you’re dead.

That may be so.

Grandma, please don’t go.

I have always been here.

Life is harder than I feared.

I know it is, but look how strong you’ve grown.

Without you, this place doesn’t feel like home.

It’s okay, you survived the worst of it.

Can we agree it was a lot of bullshit?

I could never argue with you.

Seriously, though. I miss you!

I know, dear. You grew stronger than I imagined.

I still can’t believe all the things that happened.

Take care and remember you are loved.

Thank you for watching me from above.

Straight to the heart, and clean through!

  • This hit me so hard, harder than it would normally have because I know it's autobiographical. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to write this, especially the ones said by your mother. I hope writing this made you feel better D and I hope you are okay 🥺❤️

I'm not crying, you're crying! I'm a big tough guy hiding behind a computer screen, you have no evidence of my tears... ;-; This was sad, beautiful, heart warming, and devastating all together, Donna I'm sending you so much love and acceptance that it won't all fit in a standard Canada Post box, but I found a good deal on a cargo container company so... Seriously this was fucking brilliant! If it doesn't win, I'm going to go and break something in a very manly and not at all immature way <3

  • Wonderful and innovative take on the challenge
