I Will Be Your Mirror
a conversation between lovers
I hope you always feel beautiful when you look in the mirror.
It would be a lie to say I do.
Then, your mirror must be broken, like your grandfather's clock is right only twice a day.
So like my grandfather needs a new clock, I need a new mirror?
No, for it does tell you when a hair's out of place or your lipstick is smeared.
What exactly are you saying?
Your mirror reflects everything.
As mirrors often do.
But it didn't come with me, love. It doesn't tell you how angelic you look, a beauty rivaling a field of flowers.
Angels and flowers are more beautiful than I. They are perfection.
And so are you, even when your hair refuses to stay and your makeup escapes its lines. When you wake up rumpled and retire with rollers in your hair, you are beauty personified.
I yearn for the day I believe your words.
Until then, I will be your mirror, whispering praise and endearments in your ear till they are louder than the negativity blocking your view.
