Dearest, N.,
I was always the person who wished--
Who read romance novels,
Who wrote fiction,
Who danced to love songs,
Who was full of hope,
Who dreamed of a life I wasn’t living,
***
But someone once told me,
Don’t dream your life away.
***
And for a short while,
I lost those hopes,
Those dreams that my life
Could turn into a meet-cute.
Who would want to read that?
About the person who sat in stillness,
Waiting for it to happen to them.
***
That is, until one day,
Those hopes and dreams returned,
In the form of a song.
***
It’s okay to dream,
Creativity requires it.
It’s okay to dream,
As long as you live too.
***
The day I heard the song,
I recognized it wasn’t one
I would dance to.
It was simple, sweet,
And nostalgic.
***
I didn’t long for the past,
The love I lost and
The love I never had.
***
Instead, the nostalgia
Told me to seek what I once
Wanted.
***
It reminded me of how I loved
Reading romance novels,
And writing fiction.
How happy I was
To be full of hope.
***
The prospect of dreaming
didn’t make me sad anymore.
Nor did it frighten me.
To go out and chase the dream.
Not like it used to.
It excited me once again.
***
That’s where this story begins:
The one that fulfilled my hope.
All because of a song.
***
Your song.
Yours,
L.
