Grandma’s Cookie Jar

I’ll never tire of opening your lid

By Ryan BurkeyPublished 11 months ago 1 min read

Every time I visit

I look forward to our meeting

Eagerly anticipating

The treats grandma has awaiting

For me and my siblings

What is it today?

Could it be chocolate chip cookies?

Or oatmeal raisin?

Perhaps peanut butter

Or ginger snaps

Or lemon squares will be taken?

By the handful, no doubt!

All the goodies you hold

Are sweet to the tooth

There’s a reason I run

Immediately to you

Each dessert is made with much sugar and love

In every bite, I can feel grandma’s warm touch

I’ll never tire of opening your lid

And seeing what’s inside, always to grin

Oh the years you’ve brought me cheer

Whenever I see you, I’ll think of her

And though she’s gone now to heaven afar

I’ll remember her always

When I partake of her cookie jar
