Sad poems

Someone please free me

From this state of being.

My mind is so tired

And my body is failing.

I don’t want to sit inside forever

Not with the sun calling me

And the wind whispering my name.

I long to feel the grass beneath my feet,

Not the carpet beneath my chair.

I wish the sun would light my face,

Instead of these fluorescent bulbs.

I want to run into the woods,

And never return to another Monday morning

Fetch my water from a well,

And harvest fruits from the trees.

Grow a garden and dance with the fairies.

Speak to the ghosts in the dead of night,

And look for mushrooms at the base of trees.

Make bread over a fire,

And have tea set out for friends.

I dream of frolicking in the grassy fields,

Marvelled by the different colors of green.

And pick wild flowers for my table.

I’d sit down and write,

These beautiful poems,

About the trees and their names.

And the baby fawns next door.

My poems would have a happy little tone,

Peaceful and full.

Like the romantics of old,

But all my life I’ve been a gothic character,

Doomed to write about the crumbling of

A broken society.

About the Creator

Lane Burns

I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I’m still just finding my voice and coming to believe that I can do this again. I like writing poetry and darker fiction. As well as some fan fictions!
