Escape me to Summer

Summer is the party dress of seasons;

A cool clear sea

washes summer heat

from glistening skin.

When evening wraps its magic cloak

around star-speckled shoulders,

an electric charge ignites

a summer flame.

Watch it flicker

to a breeze of breathy romance,

or a foot-tap to music

in open air,

while a percussion of ice-cubes

clinks in glasses and bubbles

of laughter and fizz

merge in a haze of harmony.

The song of summer distracts

gravity itself,

As a myriad of feet

lifts off the ground and dances

in step to a sound

of intoxicating drumbeats.

Even time pirouettes anti-clockwise

infusing stiffened limbs with youth

and lifting lips to soften

ageing features.

Lift, lift and lift me up, summer;

for all too soon, cascading

chills of winter

will curl our bodies into blankets

for warmth by hygge firesides.

The clock will tick again

to goad time; and summer dreams

will distort reality

in the most rational of minds.

And I will allow this,

I will submit,

because you light me up

when you wear the sultry

party dress of the seasons:
