Enraptured

Sustenance

By Cindy CalderPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Softly spoken murmurs fill the stillness of the night

Words that speak only to the lull of the heart

Peace, contentment, and joy flood where once there was none

Until all things of soul and body fuse, seemingly never to part.

Never in so long has a time come to me in such a way

Whence there was little pain and seemingly joy with no end

A time of reflection and purity beyond the mind’s sight

A time of enrapture that encompasses all that life will send.

Do I pause to question it - to ask if it will ever pass beyond me?

Or do I quietly and simply take it into my soul to hold and caress

So what I feel so deeply will have no bounds, fears, or restraints?

When you are thus enraptured, days seem short and nights even less.

Yet, you cannot help but ask if life can be so free and full of joy

While stars line the skies above and crickets hum their songs.

You dare not fear the end of the onslaught of what you feel

Or something unwelcome may take hold of that for which you so long.

So take love's fulfillment and the soul’s nourishment to your heart

Hold it fast and feed it daily with all the commitment you would a life

And know that only once in a rare time such things may come to pass

To follow and provide the very sustenance that makes our world right.
