Rivets upon rivets of memories – both dark and light
Make up the many facets of years of friendship
Some rivets barely scratch the superficial surface
Whilst others deeply at the soul do tear and rip.
It’s a cycle of unknown love, courage, greed, and hate
That makes most kinships bind and break
If we could, we would oft’ make it halt
Before it took more at such a high stake.
Eyes burn, souls yearn, and hearts are broken
Yet we still revolve in the same continuous design
Minute to minute, time after time, and year after year
Waiting for something to repair the spirit that’s declined.
It’s so very easy to say something and think it’s meant
While all the while, there are thoughts running at random
Thoughts that don’t coincide with kindness or what’s said
But instead leave us all alone and feeling quite abandoned.
Seeing reflections of days and nights long past
In an old, cracked mirror that reflects much and nothing all in one
Knowing that some reflections cut so very deeply
While other reflections are burnished in the ever shining sun.
All in all, time tells a long story worth the wait amidst life
And the reflections are closely kept within despite their seedbed
And time continues to revolve despite any of the markings
And the rivets, both small and large, remain with us even long after we are dead.
