disco

(ball)

By Sara Published 2 months ago 1 min read

you didn’t break me,

i was never whole.

i was born

amidst the dawn and day,

never really grasping either.

i need glaring lights

and nights that never end

to sustain my soul

like a glittering disco ball

that never really catches the light

and a sun that never rises.

why does the party

always end?

i cling to the glitter

that clings to my skin

for a day after

or forever -

i can’t really tell.

i always knew you would leave.

you are too magical to be real;

we are too volatile to last.

but as the notes

hit my chest

and you hold me

in your arms

time hangs

s t i l l

like the disco balls

in the arena.

As has already been said - powerful. So many great evocative lines...so much more can be derived from your simple well-chosen words...it's just such a talent you have, Sara! Well done!
