You are supposed to like trees,
Butterflies and birds and bees
And all the nasty bits of nature
In this pursuit, I am a failure.
-
Morning birds annoy my ears
Ugly bugs bring me to tears
I will not hike or ride a bike
This being outside I cannot like.
-
You say blue water calms your eyes;
so I don't mean to criticise
but I think grey is just as good
what's wrong with my neighbourhood?
-
I am in love with concrete
And the asphalt underfeet
If it is green I do not want it
Please take me to a supermarket.
This poem, with one less verse, was originally published on my blog. I am migrating those of my poems that meet Vocal's word counts to here, but my limericks, haiku etc largely remain there.

Nice poem… lovely rhyme. I love the outdoors and water etc… as long as it’s tamed! Camping is ok… with electricity etc🤣 I’m also rather fond of supermarkets… I’m hopeless at growing stuff, so would otherwise starve 😵💫
I am so the opposite of you. I am just ready to build a nest like a bird and live in trees, far away from concrete and people. Ah the wide open spaces for me. But would be nice to visit the city once in a while. Bring on the short poetty.
A fun piece full of spunk! Well done! As Dharrsheena said short poems can be published on Vocal too! If the banner pops up about word count just ignore it and submit!
Omgggg, I'm in love with concrete too! I'm definitely a city girl! Loved your poem! Anyway, the Poets community on Vocal no longer needs to meet a 100 word requirement. So you can post your Haikus, Limericks and other short poems here too!
