Last summer you held my hand
Walking through rows of our flowers
As you pointed to the land
Smiled at the season’s powers
Summer’s heat brings from springs breeze
Watch forth the flowers bright fame
You said to watch our sun seize
What she needs for her flames
All in nature blooms but once,
You said best learned before May.
Come last fall you squeezed my hand
Watching the cold morning dew
As you guided my small stand
Progressing mourning due
We watched our flowers fade
Suggesting we’ll meet again
When winter is gone and made
And warm winds will be my friend
All seasons hold great growth,
You said we accept decay.
Winter came, your hand fell away
I found myself clipped in vain
A lesson best learnt in May
Had beseeched me in blind pain
Who am I to winters view
You said don’t lose my face
A new season’s all but due
Where I await your embrace
All hands are cold and too new
You said I’d learn to make do.
Disturb befell springs renew
With pictures of winters loss
Your promise did not come true
Such cruelty your tulips toss
These rains fall with no remorse
My season of growing pain
You said would be washed off course
But these seeds are all in vain
All is lost without your touch
You said this wouldn’t run amuck.
Summer suns arose for me
Last summers hand not in mine
My hand I hoped to be free
But with your suns brought my shine
Flowers fields of empty rows
The seasons power does scowl
No warm winds in which you show
Midnight moons can hear my howls
All alone I feel your hand
You whisper hold tight my friend.
Autumn’s heart undone with red
Leaves lay with flowers never set
I whisper all that you’ve said
Seasons growth with calm my fret
