about the highs and lows of toxic relationships, from drugs, to dudes, to the drama of it all. the . how it can feel so good when it's good, and so bad when it's bad. how it makes us sick - codependent and fixated on them - and can begin to believe we need them. and how we are the only person with the power to change things in our lives. it's about what medicine you take, because good and bad are both all around us all the time.

self-made

self-medicated

and self-destructing

he takes his bad medicine

not the kind that sugar helps to swallow

jagged and bitter little pills

won't heal the trauma

he's addicted to it

may cause nausea

and there has to be some

one for me if they haven’t been had yet

run ragged and hooked

on pheromones

the fire dies

and there he goes

and something to burn

and it won't combust without sparks

bridges are good for fuel

but mama, he says

he loves me

step back she said

and breathe

and i did believe him

but now i wonder if i should

you said there are days like this, mama

and this is one of those days

i think i'm sick, mama

i think it’s him

a name that hurts to call

fear and love locked in battle

there is no right choice

to be self-made
