Hello.

I am a grumpy

pet aunt

of two

annoying inconsiderate

demanding

and disrespectful

niece and nephew

fur babies.

Mr. Cheeto

the orange tomcat

Girlie

the bugle beagle

both are a bane

to a restful

night of sleep

early to bed

I often go

seeking refreshment

in the comfort

of my sheets

most nights

I begin to slumber

at sunset

darkness sets in

but the house

doesn't sleep

I ignore most

but I can't

ignore his pets

true nature

Girlie's night's

wanderings

send her running

through the darkness

playing and prancing

through the woods

until she returns

and begins

the hound dog's

yowling in the

midnight hours

at the door

beneath my

window pane

calling for her

master

to bring her

into our

warm home

I can't ignore

her cries

I wake

throw a pillow

over my head

roll over

and pray

I can rest again.

Her master

ignores her bales

as his video

game drowns her out

yet, I hear her

not willing

to leave my

comforts of bed

and rescue her

few hours pass

deep sleep

one would hope

yet I am tortured

once again

by Macavity

the orange tomcat

my space is

on the second floor

has no access

one would think

Macavity the orange cat

jumps, climbs, slithers

his way through

many obstacles

to reach my window

he becomes

the thief of sleep

Pawing at

the window pane

Singing his song

of woes of cold

singing of the

fears the darkness brings

hoping to wake me

to save him from

his plight

of being locked

away from

warmth and food

His wails

sounds into my dreams

and his scratching

bring my nightmares

alive and thriving

with a start

I bolt out of bed

to find the monster

is only he

Macavity the orange tomcat

stole another night

of restful sleep.

Their master wonders

why I am so

sleepy, angry,

disgruntled

as I'm awake at

4 am making

coffee to sustain

myself through

my working day

Angry pet aunt

is who I have become

humor
