An Ode to my Fridge

Not just a food receptacle

Your gentle hum fills the kitchen with comfort,

Keeping groceries safe until we are ready,

Such optimism, the way you light up when someone visits,

Your chilled breath soothes a perspiring face,

What would we do without you,

Cooling milk, keeping produce fresh, storing snacks?

What we do on a hot summer's day,

If we couldn't refresh ourselves with your cold?

Opened and closed time and time again,

Light flashing on and off,

As I look for food that is definitely not there,

Yet you never complain, never judge,

Just patiently wait to be filled,

On the next shopping day.
