A Gentle Guest.

A New Season.

Soft golden light, now lower in the sky.

The sun's dazzling crown

Still bakes the earth,

But morning's dew,

With her gentle coat of

Glistening droplets

Stops the sun's sharp

Rays from drying out the

Grass held in comfort beneath.

*

The bees are tired,

And their piercing

Buzz has lost its urgency.

Sunrise comes later each day

And the striped workers

Find it harder to leave their warm nest.

But nectar is still sweet, and they must go.

*

The opera has come to a close

In the woods.

The guests are leaving

And so the trees begin

To quietly disrobe,

So slowly at first

That you'd barely notice

A gilded leaf,

Just swaying there

Among the paler green.

*

Autumn is a gentle guest,

Bringing warm colours

Like soft orange, mellow reds and muted yellow.

She draws forth nourishment,

In the form of sweet seeds, sharp berries and crisp apples.

She beckons us on

And we savour the soft melody.

I'm new to the 'writing for real' scene. Previously, I've kept my poetry and writing under wraps in a fancy notebook, but now I've decided to give it a proper go!
