2023 in the Land of the Free

an Independence Day poem.

By Trip L.Published about a year ago 1 min read

Veterans homeless on our streets

surviving in tents and rags.

Uneducated netizens protesting war with tweets

and selling fentanyl laced weed bags.

Abusive domestic relations

Continued and neglected by the government system.

systematically silenced conspiracy correlations

Eradicating the diverse minorities under dictum.

Dying alone identified by tags on our feet

all lost amongst the harmfully controlled digital space.

Land of the free only for the corporate elite

our children devoured by an unidentified rich face.

The day for pride, laughter, BBQs and beers

holding sparklers and cheers amidst freedom.

Now a capitalized attack against the community of queers.

No longer a nation for sanctum.

Not sure this warranted a content warning. It's pretty plainly and well said without anything I found offensive. But then, maybe that's and indication of the problem here discussed!
