My PVC Friend

An Ode to Alien Buddy

Little Trip w/ Alien Buddy

My bold memory

of you,

As vivid as

your indigo color.

My mother tells

of what we’d do,

About how I played

with you

like no other.

*

You were

my best friend,

And I would

dress you in clothes.

Until our friendship

came to an end,

The Halloween

you were torn into holes.

*

The wind

whipped and blew,

One fatal nail

biting your

plastic flesh.

And you were

tossed like garbage,

An end to a friendship

only I knew.

*

I wish to show

you my little best friend.

She’s not plastic,

but a piece of me,

She’d have loved

to play with you

to no end.

You’d be here,

a part of this family.

*

As I smoke at night

and drink my tea,

I sometimes imagine

having you here.

You’d inhale

and giggle

alongside me,

The alien

in the world,

I would not fear.

*

But alas,

you are gone.

You were

never truly real.

It’s time I move on,

And let

the memory

Of your passing

Heal.

Authors Note: Thank you for reading! This a little poem about my imaginary friend I placed in an inflatable alien won at a fair. I had him for several years until my stepfather placed him out for a Halloween decoration.

Reminiscing for this poem was lovely.

Thank you 👽
