World Photography Day

World Photography Day, Celebrated on the 19th of August every year, is a day to pay homage to the history of photography, celebrate the present and leave a positive trail for the future. It is a celebration of art, science, and history of photography. It is observed every year to pay tribute to the wonderful art. This day is commemorated with an aim to encourage people who want to pursue photography as a hobby or career. A picture captures a thousand emotions. A moment in time, which will never be forgotten. Photography is a form of art that immortalizes the moment forever.

It has also become one of the most important and widely used modes of communication in the digital era. In fact, with the ever-improving quality and larger exposure of smartphone cameras, the number of photos clicked around the world every day is skyrocketing. In 2022 alone, 54,400 photos are taken every second, 196 million per hour, 4.7 billion per day, 32.9 billion per week, 143 billion per month, and 1.72 trillion per year. On top of that, it’s estimated that around 12.4 trillion photos have been taken since the first ever camera was invented.

World Photography Day originates from the invention of the daguerreotype, a photographic process developed by Louis Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1839. Two years later, on January 9, 1839, the French Academy of Sciences officially endorsed the daguerreotype. After seven months, the French government on August 19, 1839, announced that the invention of the daguerreotype was a free gift to the world.

The first World Photography Day was held on August 19, 2010. It was on this date that nearly 270 photographers shared their pictures in a global online gallery. People from over 100 countries visited the online gallery. This event marked the beginning of a new tradition, one that commemorates the beauty of photography.

There are many online competitions and galleries during August that you can register to be a part of. Who knows, maybe photography is your next hobby, waiting to be discovered! After all, it's never too late to learn something new!

Photography Tips 'N' Tricks

With World Photography Day right around the corner, here are some photography Tips 'n' Tricks to help you get that gorgeous click! Celebrated on the 19th of August every year, World Photography Day is a day to appreciate the history of photography, celebrate the present and develop new creative ideas for the future.

1. Capture Multiple Shots. Burst photos are good to use when using your phone for photography as they allow you to capture multiple shots as your subject moves. (Such as an animal or a plane) Once you've taken a set of burst photos, you can then select the best shots.

2. Avoid Digital Zoom: The zoom feature nearly always produces poor results as it reduces the resolution of the image.

3. Use HDR mode:

It stands for High Dynamic Range, and it is increasingly common on many phones. It adds detail from the dark and light areas to provide better balanced exposure. If there’s a big difference between the lightest and darkest parts of your scene, using the camera phone’s HDR function it’s a good option.

4. Apply the rule of thirds: It's when, an image is split into nine equal blocks that form a three-by-three grid. You should aim to get the most interesting parts of your image near the corners of these segments, where the imaginary grid lines meet. Using the rule of thirds gives a more natural feeling to the image and allows the eye to flow around the picture with ease.

5. Clean The Lenses For Crystal Clear Photo: Your mobile phone spends a lot of time in your hands, as well as your purse or pockets. And as a result, the camera’s lenses can get covered in dirt, dust, and fingerprints.

6. Keep Your Camera Steady For Sharp, Shake-Free Shots: Do your photos sometimes turn out blurry?A common cause of blurry photos is camera-shake. It happens if you move the camera (even very slightly) when taking a photo.

7. Edit your photos: The process of editing your photos is just as important as the photo itself. Use software like lightroom or Adobe to make your image picture perfect.

8. Focus on the Subject's eyes: When doing portrait photography, focus on the subject's eyes for the best perspective of the image.

9. The left side of your face looks better in photos than your right side: When taking selfies, try to put the left side of your face into frame for an emotion filled picture.

10. Try to use natural light: Avoid using artificial light as much as possible and take photos using sunlight for the best lighting effects.

That's it! I hope these tips help you enhance your photography experience and good luck with World Photography Day competitions!
