My Name Is Lucy!
Hello all! My name is Lucy Esmeralda McGillicuddy Ricardo McCormick. I know. My mom named me after one of her favorite TV characters. You know, one of those ones where it only aired in black and white? What do I know, I only see in black and white anyway. But anyhow, I am what you call a Shiba Inu, i.e. one of the most stubborn dogs known to wander on this earth. I am basically the Japanese version of a beagle. Mommy always has to keep me on a leash because if she lets me off the leash, I like to run and run until I've had enough. You see, I was bred to hunt so I absolutely LOVE the chase. But anywho, let me tell you more about myself!

Is Your Cat Drinking Enough Water?
We always hear how important it is for humans to be drinking enough water through the day. However, this is just as important for your pets. It can also be hard to monitor their water intake as they often like to play with their water bowl or dump it over entirely. Follow these tips to help ensure that your cat is getting enough access to the kind of water that they like to drink.

Pets in College
When buying a dog, most people don’t immediately think of the potential future expenses that are likely to occur once the dog reaches old age. In the beginning, all people think about is the dog in its prime, healthy stage. If the dog was able to stay this way throughout its life, owning them would be perfect, but sadly, that’s not the case.

Losing a Pet
Rest in peace, Salem; you will never be forgotten. Burying Salem Pain seems like it will never truly end these days. Losing people is always a sad story, but they never tell you how bad it hurts when an animal passes on. I've never owned a pet before Salem. He was a kitten when we got him and he had a medical issue. The humane society found him on the street and operated on him due to the cyst in his eye. Some day in mid-October we went to the humane society to get a cat. We walked around for a bit until we found him. He was perfect. Our hearts melted when we heard his story, but we could tell he was a fighter. He chose my sister as we chose him. We brought him home and decided on the name Salem. It seemed fitting since we got him near Halloween, and he looked like a Salem. Now, this was quite some time ago. We had Salem for probably around nine or ten years. He was always a little off-kilter, never quite like other cats. We loved him with all our hearts, though. I cannot tell you how many times he was my confidante. So many times he sat and consoled me why I cried. He was there through so much. As time went on, Salem grew to be a full grown cat. He became distant in some ways, but he was still our cat. He would run around the house, curl up on my mom or with my sister. You could always find him near a window. He loved the outside, but we didn't want him going out due to his bad eye. We were frightened of something happening to him. We had many years together, just him and us.

Pets... Are They Just Furry Companions or Furry Children?
There's always been a debate whether or not you're parents when you only have a four legged furry friend running around the house. Some say because you didn't give birth to it yourself, it's not your child. But you also put the time when they are puppies to teach them manners, potty train them, keep them out of trouble, and make sure they get all the love and attention they need. Or if they're like my dog the attention she wants when she wants it. But I think that's most dogs and cats. When they want attention they get it no matter what.

Milo, my cavalier, is three this year—at the very end of the year none the less. He's grown so much since I got him back in June of 2015—he was just six months old, full of excitement, cuddles, and not to mention his adoring love for my arm.

Here's what I wish I knew before I began the process. 1). Be prepared for the unexpected. The milestones of learning basic commands and obedience training to commands and tasks, are heart warming and sometimes frustrating. If you do not have a lot of patience or time, a program service dog where the training is already done and you just need to match up to the right dog and pay up, may be in yours, and your new K-9 pal's, best interest.
