A Feral Friendship. Third Place in EmPAWyee of the Month Challenge. Top Story - September 2021.
Years ago, if anyone was to tell me I’d grow up to be a crazy cat lady, I would have laughed in their face. My family is a dog family. Plain and simple. Sure, as a kid I would always go out of my way to capture neighborhood strays and try to convince my Dad to let me keep them, but the answer was always a firm “no.”

Who Will Be EmPAWyee of the Month?
I’ve got two amazing EmPAWyees, that could be considered for this spectacular title for sure, but I’m a little bias. I cannot, for the life of me, choose which one is better than the other. They are so different but in loving and amusing ways. Whose to say whether this EmPAWyee is better than that one? Not me, so I’ll allow you to give your unbiased opinion.

Our Pack. Top Story - August 2021.
My girlfriend and I came together ten years ago not knowing where our lives would take us. Never did either of us imagine the amount of fur we'd later surround ourselves with. Both of us had pets growing up and have a love for animals that runs deep. They are not just our pets, but our babies. The deal we make with them is very important to us. If you join our pack and share with us your unconditional love then we will provide for you all that we can and put your needs above our own. Our four dogs and two cats deliver on their promise with each passing moment and so do we. Let me tell you about them.

Wild Cat
When thinking of wild animals, the domestic house cat might be pretty far down on your list. This is our cat, Confetti. She has a respiratory condition that prevents her from exploring the outdoors without tight supervision. Smallest of her litter, loud breathing, and in need of constant support, she is the picture of domestication.

She filled people with happiness
When I was in college, I had friends who lived in a little apartment less than half a mile from my dorm. They had four cats, and aside from Basil, who was not your typical cat, I didn't particularly care. Growing up, I'd never had a cat because of my mom's allergies. I don't understand cats. I'm always left asking, "What do you want from me?"

Learn to Accept Yourself by Making Space for Others
As a child, Kari searched out kids who needed friends. She sat by the girl who ate alone at the lunch table. She was the girl who carried home strays, accepted others, people and animals, without limitations. Each time she opened her heart to give love, love was returned. Her acceptance of others demonstrates how to love.

A Dog Sitter's Story
It was 6:30 PM on a typical workday. Sitting at my cubicle, I admired the various notes and printed photos pinned on the fabric-lined walls. As I was finishing up the last of my tasks for the day and getting ready to head home, I received a text.

The Ever Winking Cat
Meet Obi-Wan, the ever-winking cat. Obi came to us through our neighbor, who rescues and fosters cats from all over Oahu. He came to us with the name Bokeh, but this name was weird to pronounce and we already had a dog named Yoda, so it seemed fitting to give him a good old-fashioned Jedi name. Obi was a rescued kitten who had lost his right eye and is completely blind in his left eye. We aren’t sure what caused him to lose his eye or eyesight, and we have never had a blind cat or any animal, but watching him learn to navigate with sound and intuition has been pretty cool. My husband says, "The Force is strong with this one," whatever that means.
