The biblical narrative claims that Hazrat Musa passed away in the land of Moab at the age of 120, shortly before the Israelites were set to enter the Promised Land of Canaan. The Torah states that God interred Moses in a valley in the nation of Moab, but the precise site was not made known to anybody, hence it is unknown where he was buried.

Joshua was chosen by Moses as his successor and given instructions on how to govern the Israelites after his death before he passed away. According to Jewish tradition, Moses' passing signified the end of an era and the handover of leadership to a new generation.
