Jeff DaPra talks about Designing Dreams: Crafting the Perfect Home Office

We have come a long way from when people bought houses as investments or as family homes to people building homes and offices inside their houses now. Work-from-home is no longer just a concept or option; it has become a necessity and privilege. However, having a design that equips both can become a nightmare when you work and stay in the same space. House interiors can’t be solely work-oriented; simultaneously, you can’t just be cozy and unorganized. Here are some things that you can consider for your home offices.

Space planning

Since you would be utilizing the same house for your personal and professional activities, the first vital step is planning the space within the house where you would be working. Take factors like natural light, noise levels, and accessibility into consideration. Ensure you avoid distractions for maximum efficiency and consider your comfort when planning space.

Ambiance and décor

A space's visual appeal is not only an aesthetic factor. Working in a clean space has a direct impact on your productivity. Choosing lighter colors can make you feel more relaxed, and some brighter colors can motivate you, while dull colors can impact your psyche and, thereby, your efficiency. Keep your office space clutter-free, welcoming, and enthusiastic.

Furniture selection

If you work at a desk, choosing a desk of a suitable height and a firm and comfortable chair is necessary for posture and health. It also automatically impacts your focus and concentration. Furniture placement according to available space is also essential, especially if you integrate it into smaller areas. Choose sustainable, affordable, and suitable furniture that fits right into your home office and provides comfort when working.

Technology management

When you work from a dedicated office space, more often than not, your employers take care of the hardware and technology integration needed for work. When you convert a space in your house for work, layout proper cables where necessary, have accessible electric outlets, internet connections, electric backups if needed, and all other essential equipment. Make space to store and place all the gadgets when planning the space.

Productivity boosters

Mostly, when you work from home, you don’t have physical team members present to collaborate, discuss things on the go, and motivate you with the work. Some elements of your personal life could also cause hurdles or distractions. Instead of cutting off these aspects, you can add things that work for you. Having noise-canceling headphones, productivity tracking software, space to get up and stretch, enough good lighting, and accessible equipment can help you boost your productivity.

Houses are more than estates. They are homes, offices, investments, learning centers, growth options, and anything more you want them to be. Personalize your spaces to get the maximum benefit out of them and make your lives more fulfilling.
