You want people to know your name, you want to build a reputation and to make sure that you are at the forefront of people’s minds when they think about what you offer. There are a great many advertising tools out there to help you do that, but did you know that your uniform can be one of the most powerful in achieving this?

A uniform isn’t just protective clothing, or something to homogenise the workforce, it can also be an amazing marketing tool that can play a big part in promoting your business. A branded uniform means that your company can be put in front of huge numbers of people every single day, making sure everyone is aware that you exist.

To explain further, Ross Crayton, Managing Director of Core Workwear, shares his insights

A professional image

The first thing a uniform does is create a professional image. By offering your staff a uniform, you can ensure that staff look the way you want and that they reflect the values of your business. You can ensure that they are always smart and in keeping with what you do, so that you know that your customers are seeing someone who looks the part, and can go a long way in creating good first impressions before anyone has had a chance to speak.

Including your company logo on custom work shirts, branded blouses, hoodies etc. adds to the sense of professionalism, and lets the customer be sure that they are dealing with the right person.

One study showed that as many as 65% felt that seeing an employee in a uniform made them feel good about the company, with many citing that it showed the company cared about its workers.

A walking advert

When your staff members wear your uniform, they automatically become a walking advert for your business. Whether it is on the shop floor, out visiting customers or simply doing their own shopping, they are proudly displaying your business name. When your staff embody your values, ethics and professionalism, it helps to enhance the reputation of your business, whether they were at work there at the time or not.

Your uniform can carry a lot of information including your logo, your business name and even your contact details. These things can be printed or embroidered onto t-shirts, hats, jackets and even high-vis coats to make sure you are always being seen.

A branding exercise

When you think about your branding, you have probably made sure that your logo and company colours have consistently been carried across your signage, advertising, website and social media. Bringing this branding to your uniforms is another extension of this and can help to make your business instantly recognisable. Try to choose colours that reflect your business and the type of thing that you do to further reinforce what people think about your business.

You can even change your uniform to match the season, such as Christmas, or to promote events and offers. Seeing all of your staff brandishing a t-shirt which advertises a certain discount is far more likely to make it sink in with your customers and get them to take advantage of whatever it is that you are trying to promote.

A uniform can perform a variety of tasks, so it is important to remember that it is always working for you. Choose your uniform wisely and make sure that it is something that your staff are proud to wear, and you are proud to see them in. Before you know it, that uniform will become just as significant to your customers too.
