#140
One genre of horror that has often been more entertaining than scary is that of the slasher variety. They all follow the same principle of providing strong moral lessons to junior assholes. We are meant to sympathise not with victim's but with the hideous blood drenched killer.

TIS THE SEASON...TO BE SCARY
TIS’ THE SEASON…TO BE SCARY Hope you like the title. Well, suffice it to say Halloween and Christmas aren’t that different from each other, when you think about it. For instance – people get dressed up, they spend tons of money to decorate their houses, and there’s no shortage of confections to tide you over…and give you nightmares. Well technically I’m Jewish, and while I celebrate Chanukah rather than Christmas, I do love and celebrate Halloween…or at least try. It’s a little difficult when you’re 40 and can’t really go trick or treating anymore…unless of course, you offer to go as a chaperone with your own kids, or for your siblings kids. While it sounds like Halloween is typically for children, there are thankfully a plethora of activities to keep adults engaged as well such as costume parties and haunted attractions. Perhaps, one of the most popular genres in the film industry is HORROR movies. Whether it’s the new faces of Horror or classic characters being remade for audiences, it’s not hard to see why. In the past couple of years there have literally been new faces added to the genre as well as remakes of classic movies. However, the question is “Do they live up to their predecessors?” Personally one of my mottos is “Life’s no fun without a good scare!” a line that pays homage to Tim Burton’s 1993 Classic Film THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, but I suppose you might say, “That’s a Ghost of a different color.”

The Horror of Halloween(1978)
Halloween is the slasher of all slashers, although not the first it is certainly the best. This film has inspired others like it but none come close to this one. Maybe the new comes close, as it proves that once again that the simple route is the best. Halloween is basically about a psych patient Michael Myers; who killed his sister and boyfriend 15 years prior on Halloween. The reasoning behind that is still anyone's guess. He escapes just as Dr. Loomis and his colleague Marion Chambers come to take him to court. Now on paper it doesn't sound scary at all. But what make it so are five reasons I'm going to explain.

Metamorphosis
Metamorphosis Darkness. Darkness was all Desi could see around her. She felt around the cold, hard ground of the street for anything she could grasp, but only wet gravel and dirt settled between her fingers. With her eyes as wide open as she could muster between the sharp, exploding pains on her shoulder, she followed the only light she could see with her tired eyes.

Small Leather Gloves
The carnival. A place of happiness and carefree laughter. The place where children and parents laugh and ride the carnival rides while getting a thrill of a lifetime. It is also a place where the degenerate and creepy hide so that others may not find them.

Stay Away From The Basement
Stay Away From The Basement It’s dark in the woods, and the leaves on the ground under their feet crunch as they walk. Alex can barely see ten feet in front of him thanks to the moonlight, but his boyfriend Michael keeps a steady grasp on his hand as he pulls him further into the woods. Michael’s friends Divya, Jack, and Eric, along with Eric’s girlfriend Monica, are laughing loudly behind them. The sound lightens the mood somewhat, but Alex still can’t shake the creepy feeling clinging to his skin.

Business Partners
Whack! The sickening sound of the meat cleaver hitting a joint resonates in the bloodied room. It’s a sound that always makes me cringe, which strikes me as ironic: the owner of a butchery not liking cutting up meat. That’s why it’s never been my job until now.

Merciless
One foot after another, I approached the neon yellow taxi. The exterior stung my eyes in combination with the bright lights of Times Square. I focused my watery eyes on the black and blue stripes of the taxicab to calm my vision. I rubbed my eyes, reverting my sight to a mere blur. I rubbed them again and looked at the cab once more. The tires looked old and like they were deteriorating, ready to burst at any moment. Looking inside the windows, which were filthy from months of winter grime and condensation, I noticed that the seats were made of some kind of fake leather that was coming apart at the seams. I moved my glance over to the front of the car. The passenger seat held his wallet, bag, and papers in a pile. Under his rearview there was a nametag with a name I didn’t bother to read and a face I did not recognize, nor will I remember. Under the nametag there was a meter that was already started the second we made eye-contact. The second I opened the door, a mix between body odor and cherry air freshener blasted my nostrils. To my surprise and good fortune, there was no camera. I crouched down, careful not to hit my head on the roof, and took a step into the car. I begrudgingly sat on his old and torn seats. I sat behind the passenger seat. The car was so old that the fabric tore under me causing a small hole. I put my bag down next to me. His dashboard hula shook back and forth, as though it was mocking me. Settling inside the car my vision was set on the ornament rocking back and forth. I tried to ignore it, but it kept taunting me.
