The Halloween Abductions
This is a chapter taken from my book: THE HALLOWEEN ABDUCTIONS Chapter 1 October 31, 2016 - Abbeville, AL All she could see were the moving lights outside her window. There was darkness—nothing but darkness—with the exception of the flashlights moving across the yard and into the woods. Then there were the sounds—barking dogs, continuous barking. There were voices; calling to each other, signaling... It was loud and echoing. The sounds begin to fade as the search and rescue team move away from the church yard and through the woods, then scattered onto the surrounding properties. All she could feel was the pounding of her heart and the tears streaming down her face. Her child, her only child, her little boy was missing. The thoughts in her head were crowding her brain: was he still alive? Was he cold and scared? Did he think his mommy had abandoned him? Why would God allow this to happen to an innocent little boy? She just wanted to scream, to hit someone, to… no, she just wanted to hold her little boy again.

Haunted
There are times when one must test his mettle against circumstances in which he would rather not find himself. These trials are essential to moving from boy to man, and many cultures around the world have significant rituals that are used to mark this transition.

The Jack O' Lantern Legend
Where did Jack O' Lanterns get started? The long held tradition of carving Jack-O-Lanterns from pumpkin shells, originated from the Irish Folktale about an ole Irishman. Nicknamed 'Stingy Jack', he was sentenced to walk for eternity with a lighted coal flame to light his way. For whatever reason, one night Jack invited the devil for a drink. Then he convinced the devil to transform into a gold coin, to pay for their drinks. Instead of paying for the drinks, he pocketed the devil, deciding to use his gold coin for later. Keeping the gold devil-coin alongside a small silver cross in his pocket, Stingy Jack prevented the devil from transforming back into himself.

A Mask From The Past: Michael Myers Won't Be Superhuman In 'Halloween' Reboot
For some 39 years we have seen the mute #MichaelMyers stalk the inhabitants of Haddonfield and beyond. Helping popularize the slasher fever that came in the '80s and cementing the trope of the final girl, Myers and the #Halloween series gave the speechless spectre a name that ranks among the greats like Freddy, Jason, and Ghostface. With 10 films tucked under that pale visage, some of us are asking if we really need to resurrect the king of knife-wielding.

Hallow's Eve
Eli is now 15 years old, the average age of a teenage boy to stop giving a fuck about Halloween but definitely not old enough to spend the night with his rowdy friends in abandoned buildings. He’s been permanently placed on giving-out-candy duty while Mom and Emma go around the neighborhood with Emma’s friends. “Now we won’t be long, just an hour or two so don't think you can just leave without me knowing, kiddo. Make sure you pass out all the candy and be safe. You have my number if anything happens, I love you!” Emma chimes in with her tiny tongue sticking out just enough to cover his face with saliva. “YUCK! YOU’RE GONNA GET IT YOU LITTLE..” Mom stopped the fight before Eli’s intentions became afflictions. “Ok, no. We’re leaving before you two rip each other to shreds,” Mom said as agitation seethed through her teeth. And with that, they were gone.

Death's Holiday Dead?
After sitting on my porch last night for two-and-a-half hours, and being disappointed by the lack of trick-or-treaters, I wondered if there were honestly many kids that still go out. I remembered when I was young enough for trick-or-treating, I used to be out until there weren't any houses that I haven't knocked on. Last night, I didn't see a single kid out on my entire street, which raises the question, does anyone really go out anymore? The answer is: why would a person want to walk around the entire town? Instead, they could be at parties held at school, recreation centers, and at different people's houses.

Halloween in the 1970s and 80s in Upstate New York Ben Cooper Costume Style
It was October 31, 1976 and I was only three years old in upstate NY. That's me on the left. I was wearing a Ben Cooper Princess costume. I really loved the days during my early trick-or treating years when I wore a Ben Cooper costume to school and paraded around the classrooms with my classmates for the older kids to see us. One of those older kids was my sister. She is four years older than I am. After the costume parade, we would go back to our desks and have a Halloween party. There would be cupcakes, cookies, and candy. You sure wouldn’t see that in the schools today. Any sugary treat is frowned upon these days. After the school bus would drop us off at home, we would freshen up and then press onward to trick-or-treat with my cousins in the early evening hours. I can remember my Mom starting up the old green Dodge to warm it up and away we went to three different small towns to gather all of our candy loot. We would travel to Massena, Brasher Falls, and my favorite town Brookdale where my Nana and Aunt Betty lived.
