Why Carrie Bradshaw Settled For Less

An article

Everyone has heard of Sex and the City. The protagonist Carrie Bradshaw has lot of meaningless sex, relationships, and one nightstands. It centers around four women talking about relationships, and sex. To me it has to do with settling for less. How does Hollywood glamorous toxic relationships? This teaches women, hey is this normal? When clearly it’s not. A lot of teenagers watch these kinds of shows where toxic relationships are romanticized. So, I thought of everything while watching seasons one through three so far. And here is my psychological analyse on Sex and the City in three points:

1: Carrie is living in a Man’s World of New York City 1992: When her introduction starts on the pilot you can immediately notice she has low self-esteem even as writer for the New York Star and a freelance writer later on with Vogue. Her column she is writing about is sex only, not about relationships. Her inner monologue is so unsure of herself she is in her early thirties.

Later on, I learned her Mom was a single parent and she never knew her Dad. She has daddy issues and it affects her relationships, and friendships.

2: When John James Preston was interested: their relationship was so toxic like cat and mouse. I guess some women love playing games. I guess some people do like the game when it comes to dating.

3: Daddy issues: When she tells the audience in her inner monologue that her dad left when she was young and her Mom was a single parent. When a child sees a parent leave their life it scars them because they don’t have that fatherly figure. I think that’s another reason why Carrie settled for less.

I will never understand why women settle for bad boys when there are so many good men in the world. Is it because we think as women we deserve less? I think that’s what Carrie thought she deserved less another could change her mind.

I think she has an addiction to pain and suffering when she would choose toxic relationships.

The first season episode five a man mistakes Carrie as a hooker. She has low self esteem, with commitment issues. She tells a French guy about her money problems little does she know that the French man leaves her one thousand dollars. They justify money and sex.

It seems like Carrie Bradshaw just settled for less when she clearly deserved better.

She should have been angry after receiving a thousand dollars, but she wasn't; it was just dismissed.

When she ended up with Jack Burger she had to always defend her success for writing because he couldn’t take criticism, or anything. They had no chemistry. Even though their professional life was great. But when he encouraged her to read his book, he couldn’t take her thoughts. Even though she meant well. When the publisher dropped him as an author, she was happy to receive her first payout from Paris. She went wild shopping for shoes because she is a shoeaholic.

When she met Aleksandr Petrovsky she was attracted to him and swept off her feet to Paris leaving her friends and whole life behind for him. She thought it would be perfect as things escalated. The toxic relationship becomes too intense when she calls him out for all the sacrifices for him. In the heat of the argument he slapped her, making it clear to her that she knew exactly the kind of man he was.

When she broke things off her first love Mr. Big finds her in Paris, and learns Aleksandr hit her. He rushes up so many flights of stairs to hit him for hurting Carrie. The thing that bothers me is she defended her abuser, she have let Mr. Big hit him.

When the epic love scene happens Mr. Big says that Carrie is the one after all the drama and games? Just be honest with her for heaven's sake.
