The Best Quotes from The Breakfast Club

Because It's a great movie that I love

The Breakfast Club is a movie that will always have a special place in my heart. The cast is amazing, the acting is top notch, and the characters are incredibly relatable. It was written, produced, and directed by the legendary John Hughs and for years it has been my personal favorite movie. It tells the story of 5 highschoolers, all in detention, who begin to realize that as different as they all are, they are more alike than any of them expected. It was released in February, 1985 and currently has an 89% on rotten tomatoes. And now, the top 5 quotes from the breakfast club:

“You Wanna Know What I Did To Get In Here? Nothing… I Didn’t Have Anything Better To Do.”

-Alison Reynolds

Alison Is one of the most interesting characters in this movie. Her first line isn't spoken until a little past the thirty-minute mark. During their time in detention it is revealed that Alison doesn't have any friends, and is a compulsive liar. All she really wants is to be with people who want her to be there and luckily, the breakfast club has her back.

“You Ought To Spend A Little More Trying To Do Something With Yourself And A Little Less Trying To Impress People.”

- Richard Vernon

At face value this is a very nice quote, but if you look a little closer, its true purpose will be revealed. The principal says this to my personal favorite character John Bender, and it reveals that Mr. Vernon only sees what he wants to see. When we look at Benders life, we can see that he doesn't do what he does to impress people. He does it because he needs the attention that he doesn't recieve at his home.

“We’re All Pretty Bizarre. Some Of Us Are Just Better At Hiding It; That’s All.”

- Andrew Clark

While this line could be true about any one of the characters, I think that it fits best with Andrew. At a quick glance he seems like the most ordinary member of the breakfast club, but that is not the case. Weather he's doing cartwheels, breaking glass with a scream, or taping poor kid's buns together, its clear to see that Andrew is pretty bizarre himself.

“You’re an idiot anyway! But if you say that you get along with your parents, then you’re a liar too.”

- John Bender

Bender is the highlight of this film and it could even be argued that he is the main character. However, he isn't always a great guy. This quote really shows that when Bender is mean or rude, he isn't trying to hurt anyones feelings. The world hasn't been nice to him so he is rarely nice back, and sometimes his frustrations are simply taken out on other people. This quote not only digs at Andrew, but also shows how bad his parents are too.

"Remember how you said your parents use you to get back at each other? Wouldn't I be OUTSTANDING in that capacity?"

- John Bender

If you can't tell, Bender is easily my favorite part of the movie. He feels like a real person with real problems. This line is near the end of the movie and shows that Bender really has friends now, and he knows it. There's no way to know if Claire and Bender would really work out but I like to think they lived happily ever after.

While The Breakfast Club is almost 40 years old it remains one of the most relatable and heartwarming movies I have ever seen, and it'll leave you feeling less alone in a world full of strangers.

These are great! My favorite is “We’re All Pretty Bizarre. Some Of Us Are Just Better At Hiding It; That’s All.”
