Interstate 60 - A Movie Review

A somewhat weird film, 'Interstate 60' is exciting.

Where do you find a highway that doesn’t exist?

Interstate 60 is a 2002 film. Neal Oliver is taken on a surreal road trip along the mysterious Interstate 60. He encounters bizarre people and situations that challenge his ability to make decisions. Does his actions have consequences?

Interstate 60 is a criminally underrated film. What I love about being a reviewer is that you discover new movies. One has to search for this film to know that it exists. A somewhat weird film, Interstate 60 is exciting. Base your decisions on your intuition instead of relying on sources.

James Marsden stars as Neal, a young man looking for an answer. I liked how Mardsen plays this part. What kind of person is he? The more advantages Neal has, he becomes obsessed with getting ahead for his own greed. While Neal learns a lesson, he could have experienced more turmoil.

The supporting cast further enhances the film's charisma, adding layers to an already intricate storyline. Interstate 60 has fun characters. Gary Oldman plays O.W. ‘One Wish’ Grant. He is unrecognizable. Oldman is a fantastic actor and here he implements his comedic side. As One Wish tags along with Neal, he makes him think about life.

Christopher Lloyd is another memorable performance. He is a corny yet philosophical person. More credits include Kurt Russell, Matthew Edison, Amy Stewart, Amy Jo Johnson, Chris Cooper, and Amy Smart. Michael J. Fox has a funny cameo.

Bob Gale created an entertaining and somewhat corny story that has an important message. You don’t see many fantasy/sci-fi films like this. The film is a fantasy, comedy, and even a drama. What’s important i that it’s not based on any rules the more tests Neal is put up to. There are good camera tricks throughout to make it exciting.

Road trip films are my favorite. They have lots of stories. Filmmakers found several scenic roads to film on. The film's creative cinematography and imaginative set design contribute to the dreamlike quality of the journey. The script is well-written followed by the actors who are having a fun time with the story.

Each stop along Interstate 60 introduces a new environment. A lot happens throughout the movie. This road, however, is a test. On the road, Neal meets a prostitute, finds a town where an addictive drug controls people, and learns that there is a serial killer on the loose who sounds oddly similar to Neal.

While it has surprises, the film lags a bit. Neal takes advantage of situations but he never gets punishment. Although he does learn from his actions, Neal doesn’t have any resolve for what he does. Things happen too easily. There are some weird conversations and moments.

Make your own decisions. Neal becomes so obsessed with using a magic 8-ball that it drives him mad. While these devices are fun, they’re not reliable. For a brief period, I became obsessed with fortune teller apps or my daily horoscope. I stopped because the answers or predictions made me nervous about what/how something would happen.

Fortunes are not always right. If we have advantages to know outcomes then how would life be? In a world where the quest for personal fulfillment is often clouded by societal expectations, Interstate 60 encourages its audience to break free from the shackles of convention and pursue their own dreams.

Interstate 60 is for anyone who wants something different to check out. It’s fun and has a fresh idea. The movie only garnered a digital release instead of a theatrical one. It deserves more credit.
