The Master's mother had so many questions. She didn't like this one bit. But she knew her son and she could read him like he was a set of open pages and boy, he was tense. He hadn't been right for weeks. Sharp of temper, irascible, nervous. Ever since that Malcolm had disappeared.

She had put down her knitting to take the call. And now, she had to mobilise in more ways than one. She felt like she had to move quickly which was difficult with her old bones. She eased herself up out of her chair, resisting the temptation to groan with the effort.

She could travel light. She looked around her home. Just things. She could leave them. Take a few clothes, some toiletries. Better take the cod liver oil and some painkillers in case. Oh yes, and her knitting.

Ella was screaming.

It had all happened so fast. Her head still felt the searing pain of being pulled back so viciously, like little needles had infiltrated the skin on her head and were tapping out high energy Irish dances on her scalp.

But she didn't care.

She was free!

Panting, she stopped screaming to look around her. She was standing, the manacles of the chair having been broken with the surge. Jason! She looked about her but there was no physical presence there. Did she dare reach out with her mind to him?

"No need, Catwoman," a voice said. "I'm right here with you."

Ella was flooded with relief.

He was slumped against the wall, His chin on his chest, a small amount of drool making its way off His bottom lip, strands of her hair in His hand. Out but not dead. She must have hit Him in the nose when the surge happened and manacles snapped. She could see a pool of red expanding on His pristine white shirt.

"What the fuck just happened?"

Ella shook her head, smiling. "I don't know! But it was amazing!"

"Who's that bloke? And what is this place?"

Ella guessed Jason would have questions. She had some herself but first, they needed to get out of there.

And in her peripheral vision, He was stirring...

366 words

So, He is fallible but how long do they have? Will they get out? If they do, where do they go? Where do you think the Master is going to take his mother? Where can they run to? How far does His reach stretch? Can they escape him and what will be the end game? What is the extent of their powers? Do they need each other? Are they conjoined now, Ella and Jason?

So many questions!

Sorry, real life has been hectic and I’m behind on this story 🥺… Love the quick but vivid characterisation of Master’s mother: ‘ She could travel light. She looked around her home. Just things. She could leave them. Take a few clothes, some toiletries. Better take the cod liver oil and some painkillers in case. Oh yes, and her knitting.’ Smart lady!✅ Of course they get out! They’re not conjoined, but committed totally to each other. Master is taking Mama to the forgotten backwater shack she grew up in… she’s smart enough not to complain!😉

  • Time to flee! Maybe just whack that guy once more to be sure that he doesn't recover too early...

  • Whoaaaa, Ella and Jason are finally together! And oh shit, He seems to be gaining consciousness. They better escape quickly!

I love both of the episodes in this one and really enjoyed them being together. It was such a grounding read in the mother’s scene and then wabam!!

I feel like the mother is going to be my hero. Cod liver oil and knitting. The only items you need to pack. I love this story!!

You're right, so many questions and you need to find answers to all of them. Good luck!

  • Well-wrought! Keep on truckin'!

I'm immediately invested in his mother for some reason
