Disruption. I love the word and all it represents.

You sit in your ordered world and look about and think, "I know this world. This is my place and I know my place within it."

But you don't. And I'm here to show you that it is all a fallacy to keep you in line, to prevent you from causing upset. Some of you blur the lines and spill over into the no man's land of disorder; some of you are trapped like the colour in a mandala, with no way to breach the edges that confine you without spoiling the overall picture and you wouldn't dare do that, would you?

Some of you are something other.

None of you are like me.

Little sheep. I pity you. And I loathe you.

I know what you're thinking. That I am the loathsome one because of what you perceive is my violent nature; you see me as unfettered and unhinged; a creature out of control. Actually, the opposite is true. I am perhaps the truest to my nature in all of this story and in that lack of guile, I am in control, letting my instincts and my senses guide me as nature, God, the universe - whatever - intended. I am not restricted by the false constructs of society. It would be trite to say I am a force of nature...

There is no doubting I am a force.

And so, here we are: at a juncture in the text where the players are set and becoming stronger and I have shown that I can bleed and that its colour is red. Again, you perceive this as weakness; that I am fallible; that I can be wounded, maybe even defeated.

But who are you to know me, reader? Mmm? Who are you to watch this play as it unfolds in front of you and believe that I deserve to be vanquished?

Who are you to be my judge?

You have been fed like docile creatures and you've lapped it up, piece by piece.

The irony?

You've been in my power the whole time. Presented with what I wished you to see.

And now, prepare yourselves to be DISRUPTED!

You are, "The Bag" readers, about to be disrupted. I depart in the next few days for a long needed holiday. In that time, I have to do some writing. I have done some but I will not be able to do all and I do not have the dedicated time to devote to this series and develop it further without rushing to an ending like a primary/elementary school kid before break-time/recess where Bobby wakes up and it was all a dream or some other bland and predictable ending. And so, He has chosen to disrupt, providing me with some breathing space and the chance to do something other than writing, about which I have mixed feelings.

In place of "The Bag", until I return, I am doing 100 word microfictions with longer stories on the alternate days. These short pieces are filler, designed to keep my streak going and be quicker to produce before I skedaddle.

I thought it would be fun, considering the premise of my series, to have Him address you, readers, directly whilst hitting the pause button, otherwise known as Disruption. As you are all Perceptives (especially in your reading), you may be deeply affected but there will be no lasting side effects.

And so, He will return in August and we will find out how the characters are faring. I'm sorry to leave you in the lurch. But it is not the end.

Thanks for stopping by! If you do read this, please do leave a comment as I love to interact with my readers.

I love watching walls fall, especially the fourth one! Well-wrought! Also here you are tackling a real life philosophical conundrum which I approached in this essay for Horror to Culture: https://www.horrortoculture.com/blog/talking-schop-with-slenderman/ Read or don't if you prefer. I only share because it is relevant to this point: feeling good is not always doing good. "He" probably comes off as an upstanding citizen amongst normies, away from the secret lair, like so many everyday monsters do, and some people we consider monstrous may have legitimate, random reasons for acting as such, which you deftly demonstrated here with Jim's story. Enjoy your holiday!

So He is able to break the fourth wall, huh? An interdimensional being? I refuse to be disrupted, need my wits about me too much. Will use my lightpen (lightsabers are a bit passe imho) in self-defense if necessary! Anyway, have fun on your well-deserved holiday!

  • Another great read… have a well deserved break… 😎 … we can’t have you burning out & not being able to compete your suspenseful story!😵‍💫😉

Oh no, please, you never have to apologise! You do what you need to do to take care of your wellbeing, physically and mentally. Also, Bobby woke up and it was all a dream made me laugh sooooo loud! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm glad the ultimate Him has storred by for a little chat. Although I'll miss the series, I hope you have a great vacation and don't let the writing disrupt your good time.

Very clever. I love where you've gone with this but that might be because I'm under His influence. Have a great holiday, hun!

Brilliant showmanship, Rachel. Real existential hero stuff AKA Albert Camu’s ‘Caligula.’ (I minored in philosophy and studied the existentialists).

Since, I've been taking a break, and haven't been keeping up...sorry...reading "Disruption" has only intrigued me! I hope you have a wonderful vacation and if you get the chance, to do those "Brits who try American food" videos, I would love to see them. Or at least, would love to read about your experiences.

This is a great read! And a brilliant concept! Although I’m irked at being disrupted, (blast Him!) I sincerely hope you enjoy your holiday! And now you’ve given me something to look forward to in August as I try my best not to dread the end of summer and the start of a new school year!
