Nightmares Of The Deep

By Sage FearPublished 11 days ago 2 min read

Hiding in the darkest corners of the mind.

Creatures so terrifying, only appearing at night. As you fall into slumber, they crawl out.

Clawing and dragging themselves to release the fright.

They bear no expression, yet have long limbs, they sound like crackling bones as they climb around.

Embodying the darkest thoughts, they twist them to the worst. Dragging back long forgotten traumas, and making them horrifying. Images so twisted, so dark and so gruesome.

You can't escape. Run as long as you want, they follow you everywhere. The more fear you release, the more of them appear. They grow in numbers, slowly closing in.

Beware, as something much more sinister lurks. It hides in the farthest part of the mind. When it shows, darkness flows, covering every inch of the area around. There is no body, there are no limbs, as far as you can see that is. It hides its true form, wanting to savor your fear.

Trapped and unable to move, your legs refuse to listen. The creature, with the glowing eyes and twisted smile, observes as you struggle. It decides to move closer, the shadows following. The smaller creatures move away, giving space for the leader.

You can't move. It lets out a deep chuckle. As it reaches for you with claws so thin and long. You see the points, attached to a bony arm. Glancing up, you meet its eyes. The glowing yellow has no pupils, yet you can feel its stare.

It enjoys every minute it has you trapped. A rolling laugh begins to erupt, the mouth opening wide. Even inside the mouth is a black void of nothing.

It moves even closer, your breath getting shorter and faster.

Can't move. Can't talk. Can't scream. Eyes wide, unable to look away, you watch this monster come even closer.

Its eyes are huge, unblinking, and cold. It has no smell, yet has breath.

You awake. Covered in a cold sweat, tears rolling down your face. Breathing heavily, you wonder if they will be back.

They will. They always come back. The creatures that live in the darkest corners.

You can't escape.
