Mars 2159

An Unexpected Journey

By George HallPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say.

I always thought that was such a stupid statement. I mean as if it’s so quite in space that no one can hear you, space is buzzing with activity. I’m Sarah Gregorio by the way, I’m Latin-American and a self-confessed nerd, and space addict. I enjoy all aspects of space and space travel, the thrilling highs the soring lows, I’m a bit of a mix bag when it comes to those kinds of things. I live on Mars in the year 2156. We as humans managed to migrate to Mars in the year 2105. I was born on Mars and I’m a 3rd generation Martian, as people like to call us. I go to a space academy in a place called Colony Bay, just outside the Tharsis Montas region. Our area homes about 50,000 people all from different walks of life who have all taken the opportunity to experience a brand-new life for themselves, thanks to their grandparent’s choice to move here. My grandpa, who was a space cadet always told me stories about his space travels, it’s probably how I got so excited by the concept of exploring the world one day. We have plenty of food, water, and oxygen all home grown from the red soils of the planet, which tastes just as good as anything you could grow on earth.

While there are some aspects to living on Mars that aren’t as exciting as living on Earth. All in all, it’s an extremely unique and exciting experience that I wouldn’t give up anything in the world for. I’m hoping one day in my future, I can pilot a spaceship to the farthest and darkest regions of space and explore stars and galaxies that no one has ever seen or been too, It would be so exciting and amazing to go on a journey like that.

I just hope I get the opportunity to do that as I’ve been wanting to explore the stars, ever since I was a little baby. It’s almost like I was born with an in- built thought in my head from the get-go, that I was going to be a space exploring astronaut, I just hope one day that dream comes true.

The day finally arrived when I was able to go on a test flight in a Meteorite 67. An extremely sleek, fast, and agile ship. I was so excited and ready to take on this challenge. I was tasked to fly around a nearby nebula and circle around back to Mars. I entered the cockpit, full gear in tow and prepared for take-off. They started the countdown, and I started up the ship. Within seconds I was lifted off the ground and heading out of Mars’s atmosphere. I felt the power of the engine blast me though the planet’s o-zone layer.

I jetted the engine to engage super speed a continued to push forward around the planet’s orbit. I could feel the power of the ship as I hurtled though space. Suddenly, I was pushed off course by a force of gravity and began hurdling towards a nearby planet. I tried to adjust my course but could not seem to steer the ship out of this new collision course I was heading in. I tried to call the station but was getting no response. The ship began to spiral into an out-of-control loop as I continued to decent upon the planet. My heart was pounding, I had no idea what to do or how I could get myself out of this horrible circumstance.
