I Look in People’s Window
I often look in people’s windows, like I’m some deranged weirdo, as I have this feeling of longing — for something, for someone I have lost. Somehow, seeing people laugh at their tables, children play with their fables, and lovers mingle under moonlit gables gives me a sense of indescribable comfort. After Midnight, I was woke up my cat chittering at something outside.
I, James, was awoken from sleep by a distinct little chirping noise that I was very familiar with. Groggily, I reached over to check my phone to see what time it was. 12:13 AM. Great. As you would have guessed by now, I said "no"… All the faces turned pale in disbelief, the shock on their face is hard to describe in words even for a senior writer. I quickly realised the situation could escalate if I don't clarify my answer fast. What did I drag myself into? I wasn't even invited to this party to begin with. By now I'm really wishing I could go back in time and give a different answer… It's too late for that. I have to embrace the reality now.
