This easy crock-pot meal is made with ground meat, peppers, onions, pepperoni, chunky mushroom and pepper sauce, and pasta. Then it is topped with shredded mozzarella cheese and melted until bubbly.

A side salad and garlic bread or breadsticks go well with this one-pot meal. It is even better the next day as leftovers. It's a great recipe for family get-togethers, potluck lunches, or parties.

Crock-Pot Pizza Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of ground meat (I used venison burger)
  • 6 ounces of sliced pepperoni
  • 4 ounces of sliced black olives, drained
  • 16 ounces of spiral pasta
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 48 ounces of chunky mushroom and green pepper pasta sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper to taste

Getting It Done:

  1. Preheat a large skillet to medium-high heat. Add the chopped onions, green bell peppers, pepperoni, and ground meat.
  2. Fry the meat until it is no longer pink, scrambling it as it cooks. Drain all excess grease.
  3. Spray a large crock-pot with non-stick spray and add everything except the mozzarella cheese.
  4. Cook on low for 4 1/2 hours. Then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top and let it cook for another 30 minutes or until the cheese is melted thoroughly.
  5. Serve hot with a sprinkle of parmesan.

You can use whatever type of ground meat you'd like. Ground beef, venison, chicken, and turkey work well with this recipe. You could also use Italian sausage instead of ground burger or use half burger and half sausage.

Use any type of pasta you prefer. I used spiral pasta because it is what I had on hand, and it does well in the crock-pot. Some like to cook the pasta before adding it to the pot. I cook it in the crock-pot so it can soak up the flavors. If you are worried it will become overcooked, do a taste test every hour or so.

To mix things up a bit, you can add more sauce or add pizza sauce. You can even have extra sauce on the side for people to add more if they like. You can also add more spices. Garlic salt, oregano, basil, parsley, and red pepper flakes are good additions.

For easy clean-up, use a crock-pot liner. You could also use disposable plates, cups, and utensils. Just throw everything in the trash when you are done.

If you do not have a crock-pot, you can put this recipe together in a casserole dish. If it seems too dry, add a little water. Then bake it in the oven at 350°F for about 30 minutes or until done. Top with cheese and bake it for a few more minutes to melt the cheese.
