Mother's Day Poem

By Aashini Rastogi

A beautiful day at the beach with my mum

Mother, what a beautiful word

And yes, she is the one

Who brought me to this world

To my mother,

A mother better than any other

You cared for me as a little tot

When all I did was cry a lot

You give me love, trust, faith and hope,

And all the things I need to cope

You give guidance when I ask,

And you’re the master of every task

And yet so gentle and caring

And hardly despairing

You taught me to walk

You taught me to talk

You’re always there when I fall,

And teach me yet again, how to crawl

You held me when I cried,

And made sure I retried

Still we give you no rest

And your life is a test

So pretty and nice

Yet you demand no price

You suffered nine months of hardship

Just to become a mother

And yet you suffered another nine

Just to give me a brother

And when I’m scared,

You make sure I’m prepared

You endure sleepless nights,

And tolerate my pointless fights

You are the glue of this family

And do your part ever so happily,

You do things only for our benefit

And for you, nothing is ever deficit

You work so tirelessly,

Yet never do anything carelessly,

You are just so perfect

Yet no pay you collect

You barely think about yourself,

You’re like our own Christmas elf,

We love you ever so much

Enough, that we could never express it as such

I hope you can see,

Just how much you mean to me

Because no other

Will ever take your place, Mother

The poem above is one that I wrote for my mum on Mothers Day. I tried to show the deep bond that all children have with their mums and how important that connection is. Our mothers sacrifice so much for our wellbeing and happiness. I felt the need to recognise and acknowledge the immense contributions they make in our lives. Our mothers are our strength, our backbone and the pillar that holds up the weight of our sorrow. They are the ones in whom we can confide, and the ones that we can trust most. They are our first teachers, the ones with whom we share our worries. They are the ones who gift us with worldly knowledge, teach us etiquette, and give us our moral values. They are the ones who spend hours, days and years looking after us. The ones that will never leave us through tough times. They are our source of strength, our source of power and our source of motivation. They are an infinite ocean of overflowing love. They are our one true friend. Our best friends, our saviours. Our mothers gave us life. It is because of them that we are able to breathe on this beautiful planet. So let us take a moment, just to recognise and commend the enormous effort our mothers put into bringing us up. Let us say thank you, for a lifetime of stability and love. And let us celebrate every mother who has ever made an impact on a child's life. For without them, our lives would be incomplete.

Below is an Acrostic Poem about mothers.

Marvellously they bring us up

Overflowing with love

Talented and enthusiastic

Hardworking and kind

Ever encouraging and appreciative

Radiant and beautiful

Smile as bright as the sun

So thank you, Mother.
