Prosecutors assigned to the missing persons case have stated that Elijah’s mother, Katrina Baur, sent her son to stay with her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, to teach the toddler how to be a man. Authorities have stated that Jesse Vang contacted them on the morning of February 20, 2024, to report that Elijah had gone missing from the bedroom where they were said to have been taking a nap. Vang told the authorities that he brought Elijah into the bedroom and laid him down on the bed so that they could take a nap and when Vang woke up, Elijah was not there. Vang has provided limited information to authorities regarding the disappearance and maintains his innocence.
