The Twitch
The Ghost Tail twitched and woke Reese from her sleep. She was used to this because the tail worked better than her ears, better than radar. Resse was a mixed breed pup, a mutt, half hound dog, half lab but all ghost dog. The last thing Reese's dog mother had told her before she left to be adopted was to remember that she was a ghost dog. Every ghost dog had a secret weapon and for Resse, it was the Ghost Tail.

Eden Cove Vol. 9
"Sometimes we need fantasy to survive the reality". Kaden sat in his office and tried to fit all the pieces of the puzzle that was his wife together in his mind. He had spent the majority of his marriage trying to figure out what game his wife was playing and when it was his turn to make a move. This time, Amelia had been clear in what she expected, she wanted to move back to their hometown. She just hadn't provided a reason for the move. Escapism was a concept that Kaden was familiar with, he went from being an only child who took on a lot of responsibility at home, to being a husband at only 18, to being a father at 23. For the most part, Kaden escaped in his mind only, daydreams, and fantasies, although a few times, he had crossed the line into reality. He felt sure based on Amelia's behavior that she knew about the other women, his mother had warned him before he got married that a wife could always tell when a husband strayed. For the most part, they meant nothing at all to him and took no time away from his family. Except for Diana. Things had gotten out of hand there, maybe he had even fallen a little in love with her but she was so young. She needed things Kaden could never really offer her, he couldn't bear to walk away from his family.

Eden Cove Vol. 8
"A mask tells more than a face".-Oscar Wilde Amelia laced up her running shoes and carefully made her way out the door of the B&B and down the stairs to avoid waking anyone. It was barely sunrise and Gracie was on Kai duty. She needed the run to clear her head before Kaden arrived and before her lunch with her sister. Amelia was a woman with a lot of secrets. She often felt as though no one in her life understood her and she wanted them to, then again, maybe she was happier if they didn't. She liked her secrets. The running calmed her mind and helped her plan her next moves. Millie was a nice person, but she was a calculated person. She suspected that the constant movement helped keep her from the boredom that sometimes crept in. She had come up with no other words for it other than boredom, restless, she wasn't really unhappy. She felt it early in childhood, this nagging sensation to do something, anything, different than she had done before. There had been all the hobbies she ran through when she was young, forcing her mother to keep up. That quickly turned to an obsession with boys in middle school, which quickly turned to sex by her freshman year in high school. She played on the girl's volleyball and field hockey teams and went to every boy's varsity sporting event EC hosted. Her parents thought she was really into sports but she, and Miranda, were really into the attention from the boys. Millie and Miranda learned a lot and learned it young. She met Kaden in middle school and while she dated him on and off, she kept it from getting serious. When he really made the move for a relationship during their junior year of high school, and since her obsession with him had never faded, she said yes. She really loved Kade and for a few months, he had all her attention. When she ended up in the back of a football player's truck one night, she realized she should stop but she didn't. She told Miranda she would tell Kade and it would never happen again. But she didn't, she couldn't find the words to tell him. Kade treated her so nicely and she found in him a kindred spirit, she had no doubt he would marry her and get her away from here. Miranda encouraged her to keep it a secret from Kade because she thought they were perfect together and that he might dump her if she confessed. She made Millie feel better about the little slip-up with whats-his-name. A few months later, Kaden got the flu and had to skip Miranda's birthday party. When Millie woke up in bed with a hot guy she met at the party who played ball at Dunmore Community College, she smiled. He wasn't going to be saying anything to Kaden. Of course, Miranda found out what happened but she didn't seem to think it was a big deal. And this pattern continued right up until Amelia and Kaden exchanged wedding vows. Millie had decided to be faithful to her husband. But she insisted they get far away from the Cove, she needed to start a new life and be a new person. They started over together, built a happy life, or so she thought. When she first realized that Kaden was having an affair, it took her by surprise and she did what it took to end it, without saying a word to him, she got pregnant. He was shocked that her birth control failed. Idiot. She just stopped taking the pill. Gracie snapped him out of that situation and things got back on track. But a few years later, she felt restless and started to think they needed something else, something was missing in their lives. The first kid worked so why not a second one? Tristan seemed to further help things, the perfect family. When Tris was a few years old she started running, she loved it. It grounded her and she was feeling better about life in general. They started trying other sports together as a family, they went bungee jumping, scuba diving, and zip lining. The kids loved it all. Then Kaden had his next affair and Amelia was so confused. Things were going so well or so she thought and so she got pregnant again. Then she joined a gym, got a hot younger trainer, she worked hard on her body and tried to stay relevant. Now, Amelia was suffocating and needed out of California and the life they had created. She didn't want to get a divorce, even though plenty of the women she knew in Cali were divorced. She hoped Kade would just go along with her new plans and things could be normal again.

Eden Cove Vol. 7
"A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out". - Walter Winchell Jessamyn and Molly both slept in Monday morning following the opening weekend of Carnival of Chaos. It had been a huge success for the park and they had already extended the park hours for the next weekend. Both girls were exhausted but they had a busy day ahead of them. If they were going to keep their bills paid, the limited hours at KK's were not going to cut it and they needed to pick up a second job during the week. Karol's was now down to just operating three days a week for the Halloween event and even though the girls could expect to be scheduled open to close all three days, it wasn't enough. Candy had called last week and told them her new friend, Guy, was the manager of the brand new craft store that had opened in Dunmore Point, which was in the next town to the north of Eden Cove and only a 20-minute drive. Candy "might have" pulled some strings and got them both interviews with Guy on Monday afternoon.

"The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let the dead things go." Justin pulled Foxy, his old Beagle, up the old driveway towards the front door to his old house. Unlike most kids his age, Justin wasn't in a big rush to move out of his parent's house, which was his grandparent's house before that. His parents, Patrick and Sadie, had gotten married when they were both 30. They wasted no time starting their family, Adalyne was born just before their first wedding anniversary. Sienna barely a year and a half later, the perfect "Irish twins", as they looked very similar both taking after Sadie, fair skin, with light brown eyes, and hair. The actual twins followed three years later, Blake and Brighton, looked like the perfect mix of Patrick and Sadie, with a much deeper brown skin tone and eyes, like Patrick, but the same light brown curly hair Sadie had. While some people may have assumed the kids were accidents or that they never wanted more with four kids so close in age, Pat and Sadie shared the mindset that the Lord would give them the children that they were meant to have. After a few years, they assumed they might be getting too old to have more. But at 40, Sadie got a surprise when she continued feeling sick at odd hours and decided to take a pregnancy test. Justin, their only baby boy, would complete their family and be doted on by both his parents and his sisters. When Justin was only eight, Sadie tried explaining to him that she was a little sick, nothing to worry about, but she may be more tired than normal. By the time Justin was nine years old, he understood what cancer was and how it attacked someone's body. Right before his tenth birthday, Sadie died at home, surrounded by her family.

Eden Cove Vol. 5
"Get busy living or get busy dying". - Stephen King "CHEERS!" Finn yelled and clinked his beer into Jessamyn's soda glass. They had wrapped up the last day of training for the maze and the whole crew had decided that a dinner out was a must. Finn had insisted on pizza and beer and said he would "work it off later". Jessa thought this sounded ridiculous since she had never in real life seen anyone with a body as perfect as Finn's. He was a real-life fantasy, and she knew that he knew it. After two weeks of training with him, working in close quarters, and designing training manuals with him, Glenn and Melanie, Jessa had come to the conclusion he was as close to perfect as a man could get. Which meant way out of her league.

Eden Cove Vol. 4
Be careful who you make memories with. Those things can last a lifetime. Jessamyn sat on the dock, reading her book, enjoying the breeze coming off the water. August was almost over, summer in Virginia was slipping away but the heat would likely stick around for a bit longer. Fall was her favorite time of year anyways so while she always felt a little sad at summer ending, she wasn't even sure why anymore. Maybe feelings leftover from childhood, when you dreaded going back to school. She had never been a fan of school and while some of her friends had looked forward to college, she looked at a few and decided she would rather work. She had an overall feeling that she had been drifting for the past year but now she had been anchored here. On the dock, at this park, in this job, with her friends, she had some freedom now. Next week was the first week of September, she and Molly had found an apartment and were moving in together. It was nothing special but they could afford it, two bedrooms, one bathroom to share and it was clean. Her parents seemed indifferent to her moving out. Typical. Justin had offered to help them move but Taylor had to work all weekend and had stuff going on with his grandma. She had found out that he lived with his grandma full time and had since he was a baby. His parents tried to get down with parenting but they preferred traveling. They visited him once a year. While Jessa had found herself feeling a sense of relief that things were finished with Adam, she was in no rush to get into anything with Taylor. For the last two months, she had spent so much time thinking about him and melting when he touched her. But she still held back something, she didn't want a relationship. And Taylor was going to be starting back at school soon. High school at that! She didn't mind the age difference but she also didn't want a high school boyfriend. Jessa felt like they had a lot in common and she liked spending time with him but something was missing for her. She couldn't quite put the feeling into words. She heard from Justin that Adam put in his two-week notice at Karol's and was going back to work full time for his dad. Apparently he had gotten into a bit of trouble over that scene in the shed. They had threatened to fire him and gave him a "last chance" documentation. The rumor mill said that he was already dating a girl his mom set him up with the weekend after they broke up. Jessa tried not to think about that too much, she didn't want it to hurt.

McKinley was jolted awake by the sharp movement of the train. She looked around and tried to make sense of things. Kinley had never been on a train in her life. Unless you counted the trains at theme parks she had visited with her family as a kid. This looked like a passenger train of some type, it was packed with people. There was a man, maybe early 30s, sitting next to her, reading a paperback book. Kinley sat very still, only moving her eyes around the train. Taking in the people she could see, she didn't recognize anyone here. She straightened up a little bit in the seat, slowly, she didn't want to alarm the man next to her. She had an unsettling feeling that she shouldn't be there. Where was she? How the hell did she get on a train? Why would she buy a train ticket anyways? The ticket! That would tell her where she was headed. She reached down for her bag and touched nothing but the floor of the train. She looked up, where she assumed the train might have a rack for the passenger's bags or suitcases, but nothing. Just the side of the train. A feeling of panic begins to take over McKinley because she NEVER left the house without her bag, her car keys, and her cell phone. WHERE WAS HER PHONE? Eden Cove Vol. 2
"There is always that one summer that changes you." The end of July was nothing but sunshine and good times for Jessa. After only a month of working at Karol's, she was now the location supervisor of the kiddie area. This included a water play area, complete with annoying water sprayers the kids loved, a huge double racing slide that she had to staff all day, and three rides. The employees that she supervised called her "The Kiddie Ride Queen". She pretended to hate it but she suspected even they could tell that she loved the nickname. Being the supervisor at Kiddie Korner was the first thing that Jessa had ever been in charge of in her life. She felt like she was really contributing to something and she was part of a team.
