Lisa VanGalen
Bio
I am a panster by nature, discovering my characters as they reveal themselves. To date, my novel writing has involved the paranormal or magick within a more familiar setting, blending it with mysteries, police procedurals, or thrillers.

Never again
There comes a point in your young life when your mind and physical structure no longer mesh seamlessly. At twelve, you are mentally still a child while your body is morphing into the form you will hold as an adult. Your peers jostle amongst themselves to determine the 'best' at whatever. You crave inclusion, willing to give up your identity to fit in.

We're Watching You
The weather was unruly. The storm, which hung so low I could nearly reach the bottom of the clouds, rolled over the bay and churned up the waves. Once a pristine crystal-blue pool of seawater, the ocean rapidly became a deepening grey, highlighted by white breakers.

Love for the generations
It started out innocently enough. What could possibly go awry on a road trip? Looking back, it all began with that one simple question from a friend -- “I want to check out this cool fabric store. Want to come with me?” And down the rabbit hole I went. From that one trip, a good friendship became a great one. More stores, more fabrics, more thread and notions, bobbins and patterns. The choices are never-ending. And the colours. There is so much inspiration to be found in each store. And every designer challenges us to bring out the best in our attempts at duplicating the perfection displayed around the globe.

Merlot & Makeup
The deep burgundy stain on the sheets caught her eye. "Well," she thought as she sat up, "that explains the headache." Cynthia rolled her head to loosen her shoulders. A series of cracks from her neck elicited a groan of release. At least, she thought it was hers. Looking back over her shoulder, she blinked to clear her vision, still fuzzy with sleep. It appeared she had a visitor. Interesting.

Looking into the Ether
The answer is not always in the cards, or in the stars. Intuition is an integral part of each of us, whether we listen to our inner voice or not. The simplest decisions often rely on our innate ability to see beyond ourselves and the current circumstance to make a choice that benefits us. Don't believe me? Try this out.

Undying Love
Salt stung my lip as a solitary tear dribbled past my mouth to the teak surface below, creating a small pool that reflected the harsh fluorescent lighting overhead. I picked up the small collection of personal effects from the coroner's desk, confusion pushing the sorrow aside momentarily.
