Hooked on History:
Crochet comes from the French word “croche” which means hook. No one knows the exact origin of crochet. There are some theories. One theory is that it came from needlework from the Chinese that had spread to North Africa, India, Persia, and Turkey. Others believe it came from the tribes in South America.

Tea Parties
Origin of the Afternoon Tea Party The afternoon tea party tradition originated in the early 1840s by the Duchess of Bedford, Anna Maria Russell, who happens to be a long-time friend of Queen Victoria. The reason for this tradition was that Anna would get a sick feeling during the long gap between meal times. So she would have tea and light treats sent to her sitting room. Eventually, she would invite her friends to partake with her and soon other high society hostesses would follow her tradition of hosting tea parties. It was a great thing to have Queen Victoria come to one of your tea parties. Of course, there have been rumors of ladies having tea further back than 1840 but Anna is credited to having started the afternoon tea party.

Herodias
How would you like to be remembered throughout history for doing something wrong? That is what happened to Herodias and her daughter. Herodias will always be remembered as the woman who had John the Baptist beheaded. What did John the Baptist do to make this woman have him beheaded? He simply told the truth — it was unlawful for Herod to marry Herodias, his brother’s wife.

Healing and Faith:
Let’s read and learn about the woman who had a blood issue. She is only mentioned in the Books of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Matthew’s version is the shortest, “And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort, their faith hath made thee whole, And the woman was made whole from that hour” (Matthew 9:20–22).
