Review of 'Within These Wicked Walls'
I picked up Within These Wicked Walls because it was marketed as an “Ethiopian-inspired fantasy retelling of Jane Eyre.” While I loved the story, it was perfectly creepy, and I failed to see the retelling aspect of the story.

New Girl: Chapter Eight
Rebecca made her way to class, her bag strapped closely to her back, thinking back to Lucita and Cyrus and their strange relationship. It only made her think about the similarities she had with Blake. Except Blake would probably never put an arm around her possessively or look at her like Cyrus had looked at Luci. Even though it was obvious he was in complete denial of his feelings for her, Becca had seen it.

New Girl: Chapter Seven
Lucita sat crossed-legged on her black sofa, TV off, blinds closed, hair tied into a ponytail, bangs brushed out of her face. Something inside her felt broken, so she was working on it, trying to meditate, center herself, and get over whatever was bothering her. But it wasn’t working. She tried to contain her anger and frustration by pinching her eyes shut and clenching her fists.

Review of 'When the Moon Hatched'
When the Moon Hatched takes readers into this new realm, this world where light and darkness separate the land, where elves rule, and where many have powers connected to the elements, the world-building is rich, and the characterization is fantastic, giving us Reave in all her violent glory.

New Girl: Chapter Six
As bad as Silvia felt for Rebecca, she felt even worse for Lucita. It had been days after the incident at lunch, but Lucita kept her distance alongside Elizabeth, who pointedly ignored Rebecca. They even kept their distance from Silvia. Not as much, offering her a smile as she passed them by, but still, Lucita kept her head down most of the time, a book clinging to her chest. In a way, it had been Silvia’s fault.

New Girl: Chapter Five
Friday came as a godsend for Rebecca. All week she had dealt with Blake and his stupid admiration for Lucita. A small part of her felt guilty for disliking Lucita, she seemed like a nice girl, but it was terrible enough Blake flirted with every skirt that walked around. So why did he have to add her to the mix? She waited near the school entrance for Silvia and Liz, picking at her cuticles.

New Girl: Chapter Four
Silvia stood around the campus, eyes wandering, searching for someone. Rebecca and Elizabeth stood beside her. Elizabeth, in her staple black Bermuda shorts and a rock band t-shirt, hair pulled back into a tight ponytail, slicked back with water and gel. Silvia looked around. She stood with Elizabeth and Rebecca, and others.
