I love to explore our National Parks, wilderness and public lands with my Olympus camera. I live in Montana near Yellowstone NP, and I enjoy fly fishing, backpacking, and wandering. I write poetry, sing, and play piano for a living.

The Long Side of the Mountain
The Aero Lakes in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness have been described as 'alpine oceans' rather than alpine lakes. Both Upper and Lower Aero Lakes are nearly a mile wide both directions, and they sit near each other on the rugged alpine rocky plateau of the Beartooth Mountains at just over 10,000 ft in elevation.

The Long Side of the Mountain
It is nearly impossible to set up a tent when the wind is howling like a banshee in heat. When I camped at Sylvan Lake in the upper plateaus of the Beartooth Mountains of Montana, the wind was so bad that it was causing actual wakes in the lake. But I had no choice--I HAD to set up my tent. It was quickly getting dark, and this was my only shelter from the elements in the high alpine country.

Hiking to scenic Iceberg Lake and Ptarmigan Tunnel
Iceberg Lake has got to be one of my favorite hikes in all of Glacier National Park. This little gem is neatly tucked away in a mountain cirque, causing it to not get much sunlight during the day. You will often see blocks of ice that have slid off of steep cliffs surrounding the lake, and they float in the water as little icebergs. Even on a summer day, you can sometimes see over a dozen ice chunks covering the glassy lake surface. It is one of the coolest and most unique scenes in the Park!

Hiking Avalanche Lake Trail
Glacier National Park is world renowned for its glacier carved mountains. Visitors can drive the famous Going to the Sun Road to see firsthand the alpine splendor of its majestic peaks, valleys, and lakes—and maybe see a few mountain goats and bighorn sheep as well.
