Re-inventing Me
I grew up in a rough way, alcoholic mother, lots of ugly things happened to me in my youth, but a lot of great memories came with that, like living in an apartment complex that were all like family. I knew everyone! The manager would leave the pool open in the summer til midnight and we would have amazing pool parties with music, food, alcohol and lots of drugs going around. I wasn't doing any of the drugs, but I did drink some when I was 14, never enough to get drunk but just enough to fit in... oh and I did smoke some pot once, but I didn't like how it made me feel so I didn't smoke it again. I wasn't a very cute tween, due to glasses, zits and because I had to wear the same clothes to school every day, I got picked on a lot at school for being "an ugly freak". That was the emotionally beaten and bruised girl in middle and high school I became...a complete emotional ugly duckling, (which I don't know why they say that, because I can honestly say I have NEVER seen an ugly duckling...they are super cute!)

Technology is $tupid
I remember growing up without computers, smartphones, or anything smart, except people. I remember when I was mesmerized by the stories I heard by my grandparents and their friends, I loved hanging out with older folks when I was a kid because I learned so much, and what kids today don't realize is that these people are walking history books. Although in this day and age, this young generation is doing its best to erase history, but that is also what these smart devices are teaching them...that history is just that...history. How is this generation supposed to learn not to repeat history if there is nothing to remind them? Now we have cars that can park themselves...actually they can drive themselves too...so why bother to learn how to parallel park when your "smart" car will do it for you? There are smart phones that take better pictures than a $5,000 professional camera with all the special features and lenses, which is awesome, but now everyone is a professional photographer, and they can go to websites like Zenfolio, Shopify, and Picfair to sell them...which takes the flair right out of anyone who spent thousands of dollars on college to make a career out of it. I am currently typing this on a touchscreen laptop! I injured my wrist at work and Workmans Comp bought me a new computer to help me start a new career, they gave me $1000 toward a new computer, so I bought one. I will admit that I love it, but I remember handwriting everything I am typing now 40 years ago. Cursive has gone away because now everyone signs everything electronically, and it's not really "required" anymore, so more identity theft is happening and it's so easy, anyone can "type" a name, right? I know it isn't quite that easy, but still technology has made me and everyone else lazy and spoiled. Tell me what you would do without that device that tells you everything from what time it is, to making sure you're able to lock your house up and turn off the lights from hundreds of miles away. It's insane how smart our devices are, from Televisions that can do literally everything including record shows, freeze them in real time, mirror shows from our smartphones, and be commanded by voice,

Forgiveness Does Not Come Easy...But It Does Come
On February 16th 2003 my life changed forever. This was the day I learned that my 18-year-old son Christopher L. St. Louis was killed by an off-duty officer that was not from our city. Was he in the right? No, he was not.

The Wishing Well
The move from California to Salem Massachusetts was a tough one, I had lived in the same house for 17 1/2 years, and suddenly we were moving across the country so my dad could accept a well deserved promotion to CFO in his company. It took us two weeks to pack and before we knew it we were in our new house. It was a creepy looking old house, like all the ones you see in horror movies. The house was a very large two story house that looked to be a gothic style Victorian house, this house was old and creepy, but it also had a kind of mysterious beauty to it as well. It has several points to the roof of the house, the roof was also steeply pitched, making it look like a scary old haunted house, but in a pretty way if that makes any sense. All the old white paint was peeling off due to lack of maintenance. The windows are all very large and shaped like a pointed arch, almost like a church, with a roundness to them but flat on the bottom, and very tall front doors that opened inward with beautiful ornate handmade designs down the entirety of each, they were seemingly made of iron or some kind of heavy metal because they were solid but moved with such ease and when they were closed you could hear the thud of the doors together. The house also had a large wrap around porch that went from one side around to the backdoor. I stood in front of it staring at it for what seemed like forever before I heard my stepmother Christine yell "Katelynn Marie, what on earth are you doing, come get your things and take them up to your room!" I grimaced at her and turned to the moving truck to see my father and step brother Jake carrying the very large sectional pieces into the house. I walked over and grabbed a box that had my name on it and carried it into the house, and as I walked through the front doors there was a large staircase that was about 15 feet in from the door way, about 6 feet wide and wound to the right, up to the second floor, the handrails were hand crafted out of a dark wood that had recently been polished, and the stairs were covered in a very pretty runner that went the length of the entire staircase, it was mostly red with a gold pattern winding up the sides like a wave and in the center was a repeating pattern of gold roses, three across each step and the steps seemed to go on forever. The house inside looked amazing, the floors were all wood floors that looked like they had recently been replaced because they looked brand new with a shine you could see yourself in and the color was a dark red. The kitchen/dining hall floors were covered in white marble which gave it quite an elegant feel and the kitchen was big enough for 20 people to fit in, it looked like they used to have a lot of staff cooking and moving around busily, made me even more curious about the previous owners. The walls in the foyer were covered in rose patterned wallpaper, white roses with green stems. The living room walls were a dark green paint with gold leafing and gold painted mouldings with very ornate carvings that looked to be done all by hand, around the highest ceiling I have ever seen. as I reached the top of the stairs I began walking down the long hall which had to be six feet wide and at least 200 feet long, and along the way there were pictures hung of people after each door which there were ten doors in all. Each picture looked like the people were staring right at me and the eyes seemed to be following me, there were eight men and two women, one of the women I was told was the matriarch of the neighborhood and I wondered why we had these paintings hanging in our house of people we didn't even know. The hallway started to completely creep me out, so I decided to get to my room a little quicker and began jogging, it felt like I would never reach my room, but I finally arrived at the door that said "Katelynn's Room" on a post-it note in Christine's scratchy scribble that I could barely read, thank god I have practice reading dad's scribble or I might have missed it entirely. I entered my new room and was instantly smacked by the sight I saw, what an incredible room! The walls were painted by hand, and it was a mural of someone's version of the most amazing garden that had every flower you could imagine. A grand white gazebo hung over a deep blue pond, and a little bridge that led to a white brick Wishing Well with a small bell tower over top of it, without the bell, instead there hung a small plaque that I could barely read, "To all who visit the wishing well: wishes for good, are understood, wishes for bad, are always sad...be careful what you wish for". I thought *what a strange plaque to hang over a painted wishing well, it's not like anyone could "actually" use it right?*

Mirror Lake
My friend Georgie and I were bestfriends we moved in almost at the same time 4 years ago, our houses were built close to Mirror Lake, and our families were very close. We would get together with the neighborhood folks on the first Sunday of every month and all the adults would bring out their kitchen tables, string them together to make one very long table, and all the folks would bring all of the chairs they could find to seat all 78 of our friends and neighbors residing in the area. All the women would get together and plan a feast for an army, while all the men sat around the lake fishing, drinking beer, and telling wild tales about the month before. We had roast chicken, barbequed ribs, brisket, grilled fish and all the fixins like mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, salad with tomatoes from momma's garden, and the best home made biscuits anywhere, with sweet cream butter! I looked forward to that Sunday every month. Us kids were told to get out from under foot and go play, Georgie and I were the same age and our birthdays were exactly one month apart to the day. I was turning 11 years old on the 7th of the next month and he the month after, and we were very excited because I would get my favorite cake (which is German Chocolate) for mine, and he would get his favorite pie (which is Cherry). We didn't care that I was a whole month older, we were bestfriends and did everything together, including our birthdays, we celebrated each one with the other, just like it was ours...even if it wasn't.

Diggin' Up Bones Halloween Party
Well if we are having a Halloween party, then I think these music choices are the best way to start and finish the day! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and there is nothing better than getting ready for the day of the dead. I appreciate all the fun of a great party while intermittently answering the door to hand out free candy and admire all of the adorable faces in different make-up and costumes. I myself will dress for the occasion and I am almost always Dracula's Wife, because I was gifted with fangs of my own, and they are quite prominent so it just works out great, plus the kids and adults love it when they arrive at the door to a home that is totally into it, and I definitely am! I have to admit I also love to freak out the kiddies, it's just good clean fun...don't get me wrong, I am not trying to scare the bajesus out of them, just make em' jump a little, and hopefully we all get a little giggle out of it. I am usually playing music in the background and it keeps the mood going. So without further adieu, on to a few of my favorite Halloween tunes.

Eighteen Days On the Road
First off let me start with the fact that I am 54 and have only been out of state twice that I can remember. Oregon for 10 months, and I drove with a friend across 5 states which we never stopped in any of them, straight to Missoula, Montana, and that is it. So, my husband and I decided as soon as the ban to travel was lifted we were going on a long vacation. We were only going to take about ten days because he works for the government and he didn't want to be gone to long because for some reason he and his friend are the only two who do the job they do, so he was worried about coverage at work. I quickly reminded him that when things went south recently and he was working 100 to 130 hour weeks, they didn't care if he was working himself to death. He literally worked 6 days per week and was on call for the one day off he would get. He does love his job but enough is enough. So, he went to work the next day and made plans (after we discussed it) to take two weeks off, and put in for it that day!

Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood...the Man, the Myth, the Legend...and he is all of those things as well as an acting, directing, composing and producing phenomenon. Here is an actor/director who made his career just doing what he likes and being true to his beliefs on what it takes to be great, and he has been prominently successful simply because he wasn't afraid to try different things and think outside the box.
